Flow Index Trajectories During Spontaneous Breathing Trials Are Associated With Extubation Failure: A Latent Class Trajectory Modeling Study

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 19, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Extubation failure may occur despite a successful spontaneous breathing trial (SBT), suggesting that conventional SBT criteria may not fully capture respiratory reserve. The Flow index (FI), derived from inspiratory flow time waveform morphology, reflects inspiratory effort during pressure support ventilation.

Hyperdopaminergic States Bias Explorations–Exploitation Trade‐Off in Foraging and Impair Survival

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 5, September 2026.
Food scarcity causes lethal foraging due to foraging energy cost exceeding foraging energy gain. Hyperdopaminergic states (hypDA) increase lethal foraging due to increased energy cost and decreased energy gain under food scarcity conditions. ABSTRACT Dopamine plays central roles in reinforcement learning and motivation, allowing animals to evaluate ...

Clinical Variability and Genotype‐Driven Outcomes in CHRND‐Related Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 33, Issue 9, September 2026.
Clinical variability in CHRND‐related congenital myasthenic syndrome ranges from isolated ocular involvement to severe neonatal‐onset disease with respiratory insufficiency. In a multicenter cohort of nine patients, ocular symptoms represented the core phenotype, while disease severity was influenced by genotype and presumed residual acetylcholine ...

Philosophers in Public Policy Commissions

open access: yesPhilosophy Compass, Volume 21, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT What role should philosophers play in public policy, especially in structured contexts like policy commissions? The commission paradigm is a formal governmental setting for discussion aimed at policy recommendations. However, it may not be obvious what philosophers (predominantly normative theorists but also others like philosophers of science)
