Optic nerve sheath meningioma exhibits neural niche‐associated transcriptomic features and rare copy number variation‐linked evolution

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Optic nerve sheath meningiomas are typically NF2‐intact with few copy number alterations and are generally clinically indolent. Rare aggressive recurrences are associated with progressive accumulation of copy number variations, including CDKN2A/B homozygous deletion, 1q gain, and 14q loss.

Free Tools—Not So “Free”? The Evolution, Risks and Costs of Fishery Stock Assessment Tools

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In fisheries stock assessment, free software tools have proliferated in recent years. These tools provide standardised and, in many cases, well‐tested and efficient ways to conduct and support stock assessments, making cutting edge expertise globally accessible.

Spectro-temporal post-enhancement using MMSE estimation in NMF based single-channel source separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We propose to use minimum mean squared error (MMSE) estimates to enhance the signals that are separated by nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF). In single channel source separation (SCSS), NMF is used to train a set of basis vectors for each source ...

Evaluating and Advancing the Use of Shore‐Based Observers for Scientific Sampling and Catch Verification in High‐Volume Fisheries

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Shore‐based observers are increasingly being used in place of at‐sea observers to monitor and sample commercial fisheries catch. However, few evaluations assess whether these programs meet their stated goals or how to optimize them, and industry data are rarely tested for accuracy despite serving as the foundation for catch accounting. Using a

High Cost and Low Trust: Insights From Qualitative Commercial Fishing Cost Data in the Northeast United States

open access: yesFisheries Management and Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In fisheries management, socioeconomic data, specifically qualitative data analysis, is often underutilized. This study qualitatively analyzed a primary federal data collection effort in the Northeast United States, The Greater Atlantic Region Commercial Fishing Business Cost Survey.

Capelin Size, Condition, and Abundance Through Multiple Heatwaves in Alaska

open access: yesFisheries Oceanography, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Capelin (Mallotus spp.) are pelagic forage fishes that can be especially abundant in sub‐arctic marine ecosystems and are important prey for upper trophic‐level consumers. Abundance and distribution of capelin have been linked to ocean temperature, but the magnitude and directionality of thermal sensitivity can vary regionally.
