Anle138b binds predominantly to the central cavity in lipidic Aβ₄₀ fibrils and modulates fibril formation

open access: yesNature Communications
Alzheimer’s disease is a specific neurodegenerative disorder, distinct from normal aging, with a growing unmet medical need. It is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid plaques in the brain, primarily consisting of amyloid beta (Aβ) fibrils ...

COFs on MOFs: Layer‐by‐Layer Synthesis of MOF@COF Nanoparticles with Synergistic Adsorption

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A layer‐by‐layer strategy enables the growth of crystalline covalent organic framework (COF) shells on metal–organic framework nanoparticles, creating core–shell structures with tunable porosity. Ordered interstitial mesopores are formed during shell growth, which are connected with the COF's intrinsic micropores, thereby enhancing water sorption. This

Integrative determination of atomic structure of mutant huntingtin exon 1 fibrils implicated in Huntington disease

open access: yesNature Communications
Neurodegeneration in Huntington’s disease (HD) is accompanied by the aggregation of fragments of the mutant huntingtin protein, a biomarker of disease progression.

Novel strategies to overcome expression problems encountered with toxic proteins: application to the production of Lac repressor proteins for NMR studies

open access: yes, 2009
NMR studies of structural aspects of allosteric regulation by the Lac repressor requires overexpression and isotope labeling of the protein. The size of the repressor makes it a challenging target, putting constraints on both expression conditions and ...

Ligand-Directed Acid-Sensitive Amidophosphate 5‑Trifluoromethyl-2′-Deoxyuridine Conjugate as a Potential Theranostic Agent

open access: yes, 2013
Herein, we report a novel strategy to engineer an acid-sensitive anticancer theranostic agent using a vector− drug ensemble. The ensemble was synthesized by directly conjugating the linoleic acid (LA)-modified branched polyethyleneimine with a ...

In Situ Amine Formation to Modulate MOF‐Derived PdIn N‐Doped Carbon Catalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An amine‐assisted approach converts PdIn‐MOF into PdIn intermetallic nanoparticles embedded in N‐doped carbon. In situ‐generated amines trigger early Pd nucleation, producing smaller PdIn domains than direct pyrolysis. Amine sterics and basicity tune composition and particle size, while solvent and amine co‐determine textural features.

Investigating the assembly and dynamics of the β-barrel assembly machinery in lipid environments with solid-state NMR

open access: yes, 2018
The β-barrel assembly machinery (BAM) complex is an essential machinery in E. coli which is responsible for the correct folding and insertion of outer membrane β-barrel proteins into the outer membrane.

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Temperature dependence of the magnetic volume susceptibility of human breast fat tissue: an NMR study

open access: yes, 2012
Object Proton resonance frequency shift (PRFS)-based MR thermometry (MRT) is hampered by heat-induced susceptibility changes when applied in tissues containing fat, e.g., the human breast.

Eutectozymes as Soft Hybrid Materials for Advanced Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Eutectozymes are sustainable hybrid materials that embed a GOx–HRP cascade within hydrophobic eutectogels featuring a dual supramolecular–covalent network. This architecture preserves native enzyme structure and stability, enables efficient heterogeneous biocatalysis in aqueous media, and positions eutectogels as robust platforms for next‐generation ...
