Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Peripheral lysosomes recruit PLEKHG3 to focal adhesions and restrain protrusion dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proximity‐dependent labeling at the LAMTOR complex revealed the Rho GEF PLEKHG3 as a lysosome‐proximal protein directing the study toward the influence of lysosome positioning on actin dynamics and cell motility. We show that PLEKHG3 colocalizes with lysosomes at focal adhesion sites and observe that forced peripheral dispersion of lysosomes hinders ...

No-reference image and video quality assessment: a classification and review of recent approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The field of perceptual quality assessment has gone through a wide range of developments and it is still growing. In particular, the area of no-reference (NR) image and video quality assessment has progressed rapidly during the last decade. In this

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

Reduced-reference video quality assessment using a static video pattern [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Electronic Imaging, 2016
A reduced-reference video quality assessment (VQA) method was proposed by using structural similarity (SSIM) index as a tool to extract features from both the original and the target video sequences, using a reference video pattern. The method is suitable for monitoring the video quality in real time and across the service provision chain.

Full-reference video quality metric assisted the development of no-reference bitstream video quality metrics for real-time network monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
High-quality video is being increasingly delivered over Internet Protocol networks, which means that network operators and service providers need methods to measure the quality of experience (QoE) of the video services. In this paper, we propose a method

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

No-Reference Video Quality Assessment Using Transformers and Attention Recurrent Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access
In recent years, numerous studies have investigated the development of methods for video quality assessment (VQA). These studies have predominantly focused on specific types of video degradation tailored to the application of interest.

Stereoscopic Video Quality Assessment Using Oriented Local Gravitational Force Statistics

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
We develop a new no-reference (NR) stereoscopic video quality assessment model that adopts oriented local gravitational force (OLGF) statistics in the space-time domain.

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...
