Exchangeable basic cations and nitrogen distribution in soil as affected by crop residues and nitrogen

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2011
In this work, a greenhouse experiment was conducted to study the effects of N fertilization and residues of pearl millet, black oats and oilseed radish on pH and Ca, Mg, K, NO3-, and NH4+ distribution within the profile of a Distroferric Red Latosol. The

Role of the Recombination Zone in Organic Light‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the critical role of the recombination zone in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). We highlight that broadening the recombination zone in OLEDs based on emissive layers with balanced charge transport and high photoluminescence quantum yields provides a promising route toward achieving both long operational lifetime and high ...

Two‐Photon 3D Printing of Functional Microstructures Inside Living Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates 3D printing inside living cells by using two‐photon photo‐lithography. A bio‐compatible photoresist is injected into cells and selectively polymerized with a femtosecond laser, creating custom‐shaped intracellular structures with submicron resolution.

Whole Farm Economic Evaluation of No-Till Rice Production in Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes
Rice in Arkansas is typically produced using intensive tillage. No-till rice has been studied, but the research focus has been limited to impacts on yields and per acre net returns.

No-till: The basics

open access: yes, 1990
In Ontario, soil erosion has moved thousands of tonnes of topsoil off cropland and into streams. This loss of topsoil leads to reduced organic matter levels, lower fertility and water-holding capacity which, in turn, reduces crop yields. Farmers find they may use more fertilizer to achieve a similar crop yield as in past years and soils tend to dry out

Why Is the Mechanism Underlying the Chiral‐Induced Selectivity Effect Still Challenging?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The chiral‐induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect is observed in many experimental configurations and for different materials. However, there are theoretical challenges in attempting to explain those results. A qualitative framework for explaining all the results is presented.

An Economic Risk Analysis of No-till Management for the Rice-Soybean Rotation System used in Arkansas [PDF]

open access: yes
Arkansas is the top domestic rice producer, representing nearly half of total U.S. rice production. Sediment is one of the major pollutants in rice producing areas of Arkansas. In order to mitigate this problem no-tillage management is often recommended.
