Assessment of Conservation Agriculture Practices by Smallholder Farmers in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa

open access: yesAgronomy, 2017
Conservation agriculture (CA) can sustainably address soil degradation and improve crop yields. However, the success of CA amongst South African smallholder farmers is not known.

Till Havs! Till Havs!

open access: yesDeshima

Cholesterol‐Mediated Metabolic‐mechanotransductive Crosstalk Orchestrates Castration Resistance in Prostate Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Full androgen deprivation (FAD) induces paracrine cholesterol in prostate cancer that drives the polarization of cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and subsequent elevated matrix stiffness. Matrix stiffness in turn potentiates tumor cell survival under FAD pressure via dual mechanotransductive activation of the IRE1α‐XBP1s stress‐response axis ...

Seedling emergence and herbage yield of summer‐active tall fescue sown at different times and sowing depths

open access: yesGrassland Research
Background Tall fescue is sensitive to sowing depth and, in the Pampas region of Argentina, its sowing is often delayed from autumn (average air temperature 18.5°C) to winter (average air temperature 10.0°C).

Closed‐Loop Radiative Cooling Mulch Upcycled From Agricultural Residues for Efficient Soil Heat–Water Stress Mitigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional passive radiative cooling films rely on costly feedstocks and energy‐intensive fabrication, with poor end‐of‐life compatibility in agriculture. To address this challenge, a sustainable radiative cooling mulch (SRCM) is developed from waste maize leaves via spontaneous hydrogen‐bond self‐assembly.

A Conserved DT2‐bZIP66‐NF‐YC4 Regulatory Module Confers Drought Tolerance in Rice and Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a conserved tripartiteDT2–bZIP66–NF‐YC4 transcriptional module that enhances rice drought tolerance by activating stress‐responsive genes. This regulatory complex is functionally conserved across cereals and Arabidopsis, providing promising targets for engineering drought‐resilient crops. ABSTRACT Drought stress severely restricts

Impact of Electrolyte Formulation on the Phase Behavior and Interphase Formation of Sb/Graphite Electrodes for K‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electrolyte formulation is shown to govern both interphase chemistry and bulk phase evolution in Sb/graphite anodes for potassium‐ion batteries. A diglyme‐based localized high‐concentration electrolyte promotes a thin inorganic‐rich interphase, suppresses deep graphite potassiation, limits electrode swelling, and stabilizes amorphous KxSb formation ...

Climate risk and maize productivity: structural pathways and gendered adaptation strategies

open access: yesFrontiers in Sustainable Food Systems
IntroductionClimate change is increasingly undermining maize production in Ghana, a critical pillar of rural livelihoods and national food security. Prolonged droughts, erratic rainfall, heat stress, and flooding disrupt traditional farming practices and

One‐Step Preparation of Lanthanide‐Doped Polyurea Multicolor Microspheres for Versatile Fluorescent Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lanthanide‐doped polyurea microspheres are prepared via a facile one‐step precipitation polymerization. They exhibit strong hydrogen‐bonding and coordination interactions with excellent properties, including multicolor emission, high quantum yield (75.3%), remarkable stability, redispersibility, and biocompatibility.

ZrO2 Aerogel‐Supported Pd Nanoparticles for Photothermal CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanoparticle‐based aerogels are promising catalysts for photothermal reactions due to optical transparency, high surface area, and low thermal conductivity. Here, we present deposition of Pd nanoparticles on ZrO2 aerogel granules by a wet‐impregnation approach.
