Indenture as a Commitment Device in Self-Enforced Contracts: An Experimental Test [PDF]

open access: yes
How can a principal (an agent) ensure that an agent (a principal) will work (pay up), if payment (work) precedes work (payment)? When a banknote is torn in two, each part is by itself worthless.

Soil nitrate N as influenced by annually undersown cover crops in spring cereals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Cover crops can reduce leaching and erosion, introduce variability into crop rotations and fix nitrogen (N) for use by the main crops. In Finland, undersowing is a suitable method for establishing cover crops in cereals.

Proton modified Pt zeolite fuel cell electrocatalysts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
NaY Zeolite is selected as a suitable material to host 1.5 wt% Platinum (Pt) loading on zeolite using ion exchange method (a) Pt(NH3)4(NO3)2 without excess NH4NO3 nitrate and (b) Pt(NH3)4(NO3)2 with excess NH4NO3 nitrate.

Spin‐Dependent Generation of Surface‐Bound Radicals Toward Selective and Long‐Lasting Water Purification

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops a novel atomic engineering strategy to fine‐tune the spin state of α‐Fe2O3 catalysts toward a medium‐spin state, thereby modulating peroxymonosulfate activation and selectively yielding surface‐bound radicals. Compared with free radicals, surface‐bound radicals exhibit moderated oxidation potential, extended lifespan, surface ...

The Potential of NO3--N Utilization by a Woody Shrub Species Lindera triloba: A Cultivation Test to Estimate the Saturation Point of Soil NO3–-N for Plants

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2001
Responses of seedlings of a shrub species, Lindera triloba, grown in perlite culture medium, to nitrate (NO3–-N) supply were investigated to estimate the saturating point of available NO3–-N for plant utilization.

Molecular Templating Enables Precise CeNiC2/Ni Heterostructures for Efficient Alkaline Hydrogen Oxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A series of Bi‐TMCs‐based heterostructures (CeNiC2/Ni‐x%) have been precisely constructed through a “molecular‐template”‐assisted strategy, which exhibits remarkable alkaline HOR performance derived from the strong synergy between Ni and CeNiC2 components.

Surface-Plasmon-Assisted Photoelectrochemical Reduction of CO2 and NO3− on Nanostructured Silver Electrodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) typically suffers from low selectivity and poor reaction rates that necessitate high overpotentials, which impede its possible application for CO2 capture, sequestration, or carbon-based fuel production ...

Light Activated Induction of Cuproptosis in Resistant Cancer Cells Using Polymeric BODIPY Nanoparticles for Photoactivated Chemotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a photo‐responsive nanoparticle platform that precisely triggers copper‐dependent cuproptotic cell death in (drug‐resistant) cancer cells. The system remains stable and inactive in the dark but releases cytotoxic species upon red‐light irradiation, achieving potent activity in drug‐resistant breast cancer cells.

Nitrate dynamics in natural plants: Insights based on the concentration and natural isotope abundances of tissue nitrate

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2014
The dynamics of nitrate (NO3-), a major nitrogen (N) source for natural plants, has been studied mostly through experimental N addition, enzymatic assay, isotope labeling, and genetic expression.
