Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Digital reference services : a snapshot of the current practices in scottish libraries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Discusses the current practices followed by some major libraries in Scotland for providing digital reference services(DRS). Refers to the DRSs provided by three academic libraries, namely Glasgow University Library, the University of Strathclyde Library,

No-Reference Quality Assessment for Contrast-Distorted Images

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Contrast distortion is a common distortion type in the image applications. However, there are still very limited approaches proposed for quantifying the quality of the contrast-distorted images reliably.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Service Equality in Virtual Reference [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Research is divided about the potential of e-service to bridge communication gaps, particularly to diverse user groups. According to the existing body of literature, e-service may either increase or decrease the quality of service received.

NO REFERENCE QUALITY OF THE HAZY IMAGES DEPENDING ON TRANSMISSION COMPONENT ESTIMATION

open access: yesInternational Islamic University Malaysia Engineering Journal, 2019
The research aim is to measure the quality of hazy images using a no-reference scale based on the Transmission Component and Wavelet Transform (TCWT) by calculating the histogram in the High and Low (HL) component.

ANALYSIS OF POLYMORPHIC OPTIONS OF THE ENOS, PNPLA3, CD14 GENES AT ALCOHOLIC LIVER DISEASE [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Medical Practice, 2019
Introduction. The development and progression of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is conditioned and modified by genetic polymorphism and the interaction of genes with numerous factors, among which the important part is the amount of alcohol consumed, the ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
