Environmental effects on noble-gas hydrides: HXeBr, HXeCCH, and HXeH in noble-gas and molecular matrices

Noble-gas hydrides HNgY (Ng is a noble-gas atom and Y is an electronegative group) are sensitive probes of local environment due to their relatively weak bonding and large dipole moments. We experimentally studied HXeBr in Ar, Kr, and N2 matrices, HXeCCH in Ne and N2 matrices, and HXeH in an N2 matrix.

Noble-Gas Chemistry

Noble-gas chemistry was started in 1962 with the discovery of xenon hexafluoroplatinate followed with a number of compounds binding xenon or krypton. We highlight the classical and more exotic noble-gas compounds and discuss the nature of their bonding starting with strongly bound systems and progressing to weak interactions.

Noble Gas Induced Defects in Silicon

AbstractLow energy bombardment of silicon with noble gas ions generates a family of defects with characteristic low-temperature photoluminescence spectra. The defect distribution up to one gtm below the sample surface indicates an unusually enhanced migration mechanism during the bombardment of the specimen.

The noble gas nuclides amenable to NMR studies, 3He, 21Ne, 83Kr, 129Xe, and 131Xe, are discussed in this article. Xenon-129 chemical shifts and J-couplings to 129Xe in xenon compounds are correlated with their structures.
