Five aerobic actinomycete strains isolated from patients in Japan were assigned provisionally to the genus Nocardia based on morphological and physiological characteristics. The five strains, IFM 10481, IFM 0668, IFM 0901, IFM 0583 and IFM 0342, were not classified into any Nocardia species reported as infectious agents in Japan.

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Dilemmas in Recurrent Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis After Bilateral Lung Transplantation. [PDF]
Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is an ultra‐rare lung disease that can recur even years after bilateral lung transplantation, as in this 73‐year‐old man whose diagnosis was delayed by PAS‐negative BAL and overlapping opportunistic infections (Nocardia, MAC, Aspergillus). Despite initially normal post‐transplant spirometry, he developed progressive

Molecular mechanisms underlying Nocardia host interactions [PDF]
Nocardia species are opportunistic pathogens that cause localized and disseminated infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals. Despite their clinical importance, the molecular mechanisms underlying Nocardia pathogenicity remain ...

Spontaneous Mediastinal Abscess in a Patient With Asthma Under Low Dose Steroid: A Case Report. [PDF]
Herein, I report a case of spontaneous mediastinal abscess caused by Nocardia farcinica in an asthmatic patient receiving low‐dose steroid treatment. ABSTRACT Spontaneous mediastinal abscess with an occult source of infection is extremely rare and presents a diagnostic challenge.

A Comparison of Nocardia asteroides and Nocardia brasiliensis [PDF]
SUMMARY: A description of Nocardia asteroides (Eppinger) Blanchard, based on the examination of 98 strains, is presented and compared with a description of N. brasiliensis (Lindenberg) Castellani and Chalmers, based on 50 strains. Characteristics common to freshly isolated strains, variants of the same strain, and old stock strains are used in the ...

Clinical screening of Nocardia in sputum smears based on neural networks
ObjectiveNocardia is clinically rare but highly pathogenic in clinical practice. Due to the lack of Nocardia screening methods, Nocardia is often missed in diagnosis, leading to worsening the condition. Therefore, this paper proposes a Nocardia screening
