Evolutionary Drivers of Conspicuous Spots in Velvet Ants (Hymenoptera: Dasymutilla)
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2025.This study investigates the evolution of conspicuous spots in velvet ants (Mutillidae: Dasymutilla). We found that conspicuous spots are more likely to evolve in forest‐dwelling species and areas with greater canopy cover, while they tend to be lost in open or desert habitats.
