Modelling the influence of soil moisture on the Turkana jet
High‐resolution convection‐permitting experiments demonstrate that the Turkana jet is sensitive to soil moisture variations. When examining realistic dry and wet conditions, dry soils amplify a surface‐induced thermal low, which intensifies the along‐channel pressure gradient and strengthens the Turkana jet.

A radar‐based investigation of precipitation growth and decay in South Korea
Within a Lagrangian framework, we quantitatively retrieved and assessed precipitation growth and decay using the South Korean radar network, focusing on spatial patterns over the unique geographical features, including complex topography and land–ocean boundaries. Our findings indicate that the precipitation growth and decay is significantly influenced

During July 2021 there were widespread reports of flooding across the equatorial Maritime Continent. This analysis reveals how interactions between a system of convectively coupled Kelvin waves (CCKWs) and diurnally phase‐locked westward‐propagating inertio‐gravity waves during an active Madden–Julian Oscillation (MJO) caused these extreme rainfall ...

Observations of a frontal–trough merger over a wildfire, Queensland, Australia
Observations are presented of the meteorology of a frontal–trough merger in subtropical Australia which impacted a wildfire. An elevated nocturnal mixed layer above approx. 2500 m with increasing moisture with height was identified as the source of instability that resulted in the formation of elevated storms along a 300‐km frontal–trough boundary ...
