ABSTRACT Epimedium (EP) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has been used to treat osteoporosis for several years, but its mechanism of action is unclear. We used ultrahigh‐performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple–quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC–QQQ–MS/MS) to detect the components of raw and processed EP samples.

Abstract The coordination chemistry of the planar, doubly π‐extended bipyridine analog, 6,6′,7,7′‐biphenanthridine (p‐biphe), is presented. The phenanthridine units in p‐biphe are fused together at the 6‐ and 7‐ positions, and the resulting rigid ligand is compared with the more flexible parent “biphe” fused only at the 6‐positions.

Extending the π system of a fully conjugated framework composed of alternating five‐ and six‐membered rings led to further rare examples of bench‐stable carbon‐centered hydrocarbon radicals. Spectroscopic analysis allowed extensive characterization, which was further supported by computational methods.

Abstract The synthesis and characterization of an amphiphilic nitroxide to be used as a controlling agent in a nitroxide‐mediated living radical polymerization in aqueous dispersion media is presented. In the first stage of nitroxide synthesis (phthalimide protection), two reaction methods were employed: traditional and microwave.
