Occurrence and distribution of barite in the permo-triassic siksikpuk formation along the Brooks Range haul road [PDF]
Barite commonly occurs in Permian to Triassic age rocks along the north flank of the Brooks Range. The Siksikpuk Formation (Wolfcampian to lowest Guadalupian age) is noted for its barite and is well exposed in the vicinity of Galbraith Lake along the ...

Carbonate sedimentology: An evolved discipline
Abstract Although admired and examined since antiquity, carbonate sediment and rock research really began with Charles Darwin who, during a discovery phase, studied, documented and interpreted their nature in the mid‐19th century. The modern discipline, however, really began after World War II and evolved in two distinct phases.

Stable isotope values in modern bryozoan carbonate from New Zealand and implications for paleoenvironmental interpretation [PDF]
Bryozoan carbonate contains useful geochemical evidence of temperate shelf paleoenvironments. Stable isotope values were determined for 103 modern marine bryozoan skeletons representing 30 species from New Zealand. δ18O values range from -1.4 to 2.8 VPDB,

Quantification of rheological parameters in deep‐sea mining plumes
This study explores the variations in rheological properties observed during the propagation of deep‐sea mining plumes, utilizing rheological test data obtained from kaolin clay plumes. Subsequently, taking into account the differences in sediment properties, the effects of clay content and clay mineral composition on the rheological parameters of ...

ABSTRACT Kalavan‐2, a high‐altitude (∼1640 m a.s.l.) open‐air site in Armenia, preserves stratified Middle Paleolithic occupations with a rich small‐vertebrate record. Luminescence dating has placed site formation between ~60 and 45 ka, but without independent chronological control of the microvertebrate accumulation.

An investigation into the controls of granite plutonism in the Sierra da Freita region, Northern Portugal [PDF]
The Serra da Freita region of north central Portugal was chosen for study as it displays the complex relationships between regional structure, plutonism, regional and contact metamorphism typical of this part of Iberia.

Abstract The sedimentary succession at Whittlesey preserves a unique British late Middle Pleistocene to Holocene record back to a time equivalent to at least marine oxygen isotope stage 8 (ca. 250 ka). This study builds on previously published sedimentology, geochronology and palaeoecology results to establish 20 sedimentary facies associations, with ...

Hydrocarbon-derived ferromanganese nodules in carbonate-mud mounds from the Gulf of Cadiz: Mud-breccia sediments and clasts as nucleation sites [PDF]
More than 500 F e - M n nodules were sampled during the Anastasya-01 cruise (TASYO project) along the continental margin of the Gulf of Cadiz (eastern Central Atlantic), at the confluence of the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean, where ...

Assessing the intensity of Late Quaternary humid phases in the Nefud Desert, northern Arabia
ABSTRACT The climate history of the major dryland zones of the world, such as the Saharo–Arabian Desert belt, plays a key role in the dispersal of early humans through these intermittently inhospitable regions. Here, we assess the relative intensity of Late Quaternary humid phases in northern Arabia through lithological, geochemical, palaeoecological ...
