A novel approach to estimate non‐algal particle absorption for improved retrieval of pigment concentrations in coastal waters

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Phytoplankton play a central role in ocean biogeochemistry and understanding their composition and variability is critical for monitoring marine ecosystem dynamics. Continuous spectrophotometric measurements (using a Seabird Sci. AC‐S) along ship tracks enable high‐resolution measurements of particle spectral absorption (apλ$$ {a}_p\left ...

Mixed TiO2–SiO2 thin coatings for selective adsorption and sunlight‐powered photodegradation of cationic pollutants

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
Environmental pollution and water scarcity demand innovative purification methods. This study presents a sol‐gel approach to fabricate mixed silica–titania thin films joining photocatalytic activity with selective sorption capability. The films exhibit higher surface area, enhanced degradation of cationic and improved performance over bare titania ...

Ambient Air Quality Monitoring in Metropolitan City of Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2016
Twenty one sampling locations were assessed for carbon monoxide (CO), carbondioxide (CO2), oxygen (O2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), nitrogen oxide (NO), suspended particulate matter (SPM) and noise level using air pollutants ...

Environmental Stressors Influence Spatial Complexity in a Fluvial Macrophyte meadow

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This research investigates the nonlinear relationships between environmental stressors and the fine‐scale spatial complexity of a fluvial macrophytes meadow. The use of multivariate spatial analysis allowed us to identify two major environmental gradients (nutrients and light) and two major complexity gradients (related to abundance and fragmentation).

Reactivity of Oxidized Porous Silicon with Calcium Ion in Aqueous Media: Stability, pH Behavior, and Host‐Guest Strategies

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Oxidized porous silicon, composed of an elemental silicon porous skeleton coated with a silica shell, reacts with aqueous Ca2+ to generate a mixed silica–calcium silicate matrix that is remarkably efficient at trapping small molecules. With an emphasis on the engineering of controlled‐release drug delivery systems, this study identifies the factors ...

Ambient, Bias‐Free, Green Nanoparticle Synthesis via Microdroplet‐Confined Galvanic Chemistry

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Confined galvanic reactions within sprayed microdroplets drive the direct growth of metal nanoparticles on conductive surfaces under ambient conditions. Eliminating the need for external bias and thermal input, this approach offers a simple route toward more sustainable nanoparticle synthesis.

An Empirical Algorithm for Estimating the Absorption of Colored Dissolved Organic Matter from Sentinel-2 (MSI) and Landsat-8 (OLI) Observations of Coastal Waters

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Sentinel-2/MSI and Landsat-8/OLI sensors enable the mapping of ocean color-related bio-optical parameters of surface coastal and inland waters. While many algorithms have been developed to estimate the Chlorophyll-a concentration, Chl-a, and the ...

A Dual Cell‐Line Molecular Platform to Assess Sub‐Threshold Biocompatibility: Application to Processed Orthodontic Clears Aligners

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Traditional biocompatibility assessments primarily address cytotoxicity and bulk material properties but often overlook molecular responses that occur below toxicity thresholds. Detecting these subtle effects is crucial for materials intended for prolonged contact with human tissues.
