Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Discordance Between Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index Domain Weights and Their Association With Organ Damage Accrual

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Studies of damage accrual in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) show associations with disease activity measured by the SLE Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI‐2K), but these associations are imperfect. SLEDAI scores are powerfully influenced by weightings (1–8) assigned to each domain.

Identification and attenuation of slat noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the case of civil transport aircraft, engines were the dominant noise source until the advent of the high-bypass ratio engines in the early 1970s. Since then, airframe noise has become more important, particularly during the approach-to-landing stage ...

Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Noise Variation Characteristics of the Superconducting Gravimeter at Jiufeng Station in Wuhan (China)

open access: yesSensors
The noise level of gravity stations is an important indicator for measuring the operating status of a station and is a prerequisite for evaluating whether the station’s observations can be used to extract weak geodynamic signals.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for
