Variational Positive-Incentive Noise: How Noise Benefits Models

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence
A large number of works aim to alleviate the impact of noise due to an underlying conventional assumption of the negative role of noise. However, some existing works show that the assumption does not always hold. In this paper, we investigate how to benefit the classical models by random noise under the framework of Positive-incentive Noise (Pi-Noise).

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Machine Learning-Enhanced 3D GIS Urban Noise Mapping with Multi-Modal Factors

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information
Geographic Information System (GIS)-based noise management is crucial in urban environments as it provides precise spatial analysis, helping to identify noise hotspots and optimize noise control measures.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Digital twins to accelerate target identification and drug development for immune‐mediated disorders

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Digital twins integrate patient‐derived molecular and clinical data into personalised computational models that simulate disease mechanisms. They enable rapid identification and validation of therapeutic targets, prediction of drug responses, and prioritisation of candidate interventions.

Optimizing photoactivation of PA‐mCherry for optical pooled CRISPR screens

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Photoactivatable PA‐mCherry finds widespread use to optically tag individual cells. However, confocal 405 nm UV laser‐scanning (normal scan) is much less efficient than widefield UV illumination, limiting the use of PA‐mCherry on confocal instruments. We remedy this limitation by reporting that rapid and repeated confocal scanning with a low‐intensity,

Research and Modeling of Photovoltaic Array Channel Noise Characteristics

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The photovoltaic array can be used as a medium for carrier communication to realize monitoring of photovoltaic components. Photovoltaic array channel noise, especially the pulse-type noise therein, seriously interferes carrier communication, so it is ...

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.

A Novel Framework for Real ICMOS Image Denoising: LD-NGN Noise Modeling and a MAST-Net Denoising Network

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Intensified complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (ICMOS) sensors involve multiple steps, including photoelectric conversion and photoelectric multiplication, each of which introduces noise that significantly impacts image quality.
