Template banks to search for low-mass binary black holes in advanced gravitational-wave detectors

open access: yes, 2013
Coalescing binary black holes (BBHs) are among the most likely sources for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) and its international partners Virgo and KAGRA.

Photonic microwave signals with zeptosecond-level absolute timing noise [PDF]

open access: yesNature Photonics, 2016
Ultralow-noise microwave signals are generated at 12 GHz by a low-noise fibre-based frequency comb and cutting-edge photodetection techniques. The microwave signals have a fractional frequency stability below 6.5 × 10–16 at 1 s and a timing noise floor ...

Miniature Nanomesh Mechano‐Acoustic Sensor with Wide Linear Dynamic Range, Broad Bandwidth, and Flat Frequency Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A miniaturized mechano‐acoustic sensor is developed using an electrospun PVDF nanomesh as the diaphragm in a capacitive sensor structure. Unlike conventional nanomesh‐based sensors, it achieves high linear sensitivity, a broad and flat frequency response, and a compact form factor.

Gravitational waves from eccentric compact binaries: Reduction in signal-to-noise ratio due to nonoptimal signal processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Inspiraling compact binaries have been identified as one of the most promising sources of gravitational waves for interferometric detectors. Most of these binaries are expected to have circularized by the time their gravitational waves enter the ...

Region‐to‐Region Unidirectional Connection In Vitro Brain Model for Studying Directional Propagation of Neuropathologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A unidirectional cerebral organoid–organoid neural circuit is established using a microfluidic platform, enabling controlled directional propagation of electrical signals, neuroinflammatory cues, and neurodegenerative disease–related proteins between spatially separated organoids.

Forward Scatter Radar Meets Satellite: Passive Sensing of Aerial Target Using Satellite Communication Waveforms

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
The problem of single-channel reception of global positioning system (GPS) communication waveforms makes passive sensing of aerial target difficult because of forward scatter.

Matched filtering of gravitational waves from inspiraling compact binaries: Computational cost and template placement [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We estimate the number of templates, computational power, and storage required for a one-step matched filtering search for gravitational waves from inspiraling compact binaries.
