Nominalization and focus constructions in some Kiranti languages [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
It is well-known that in many if not most Sino-Tibetan languages relative clause and attribute/genitive markers are identical with nominalization devices and that sentences bearing such markers can also function as independent utterances (cf.

Relative clauses in Gavião of Rondônia

open access: yesBoletim do Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi. Ciências Humanas, 2006
The language of the Gavião of Rondônia constructs relative clauses by syntactic nominalization, using either of two particles, mát 'concrete nominalization' or méne 'abstract nominalization', which are derived diachronically from discourse pronouns.

Deverbal nominalization in Runyankore

open access: yesStudies in African Linguistics, 2023
In this paper I examine eleven different processes of deverbal nominalization in Runyankore, a Lacustrine Bantu language spoken in Uganda. After establishing both general and Runyankore-specific properties that distinguish nouns from verbs, I test each ...

A Perspective on Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of High‐Nitrogen Alloyed Stainless Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective article explores an innovative powder metallurgical approach to producing high‐nitrogen steels by utilizing a mixture of stainless steel and Si3N4. This mixture undergoes hot isostatic pressing followed by direct quenching. The article also examines adapting this method to laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB/M) to overcome nitrogen ...

Adjectival and verbal nouns in Japanese and multi-level nominalization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper shows that there is a subclass of adjectives in Japanese called adjectival nouns, which consists of adjectives mostly of foreign origin, and this subset of the adjectives is required to undergo nominalization by the merger of a null ...

Nanoparticle‐Coated X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 Powder for Additive Manufacturing—Part II: Processability by Powder Bed Fusion of Metals Using a Laser Beam

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this manuscript, the processability of X2CrNiMo17‐12‐2 powder coated with silicon carbide, silicon, and silicon nitride nanoparticles is investigated. The amount of nanoparticles varies from 0.25 to 1 vol%. By coating the powder feedstock material with nanoparticles, an enlargement of the process window and an increase in the build rate are achieved.

Nominalization – lexical and syntactic aspects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The main tenet of the present paper is the thesis that nominalization – like other cases of derivational morphology – is an essentially lexical phenomenon with well defined syntactic (and semantic) conditions and consequences.

An Examination of Aerosol Jet‐Printed Surface Roughness and its Impact on the Performance of High‐Frequency Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores aerosol jet‐printed (AJP) surface roughness, its effects on the performance of microwave electronics, and its process contributors. First, an electromagnetic model is vetted for AJP's unique roughness signature. Simulations are built which show process‐induced roughness is as significant as conductor resistivity in driving microwave

The Effect of Elastic–Plastic Mismatch and Interface Proximity on the Fracture Toughness of Ti‐TiN Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Multilayering of TiN film with metallic Ti film is adopted to enhance the fracture resistance of TiN thin films. Plastic dissipation within Ti with process zone size of ≈250 nm, along with elastic–plastic mismatch driven changes to crack driving force enhances the crack growth resistance by ten times, enabling physics informed design of optimized ...

Nominalizations

open access: yesZAS Papers in Linguistics, 2002
The present volume is a selection of the papers presented in workshops at ZAS in Berlin in November 2000 and at theUniversity of Tübingen in April 2001, devoted to synchronic and, diachronic aspects of various types of nominalizations. Nominalization has a long history in linguistic research.
