Undrained shearing response of loose sand subjected to different strain paths addressing evolution of fabric anisotropy and non-coaxiality [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
The undrained shearing response of loose sand usually depicts a sudden loss in shear strength due to emergence of liquefaction type solid-fluid instability.

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Stress-Dilatancy for Soils. Part III: Experimental Validation for the Biaxial Condition

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2017
The validation of the general stress-dilatancy relationship is shown based on biaxial compression test data presented in the literature under drained and undrained conditions.

A generalized Drucker–Prager viscoplastic yield surface model for asphalt concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A Generalized Drucker-Prager (GD-P) viscoplastic yield surface model was developed and validated for asphalt concrete. The GD-P model was formulated based on fabric tensor modified stresses to consider the material inherent anisotropy.

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Stress‒dilatancy behaviour of calcareous sand [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Calcareous sands are a special geomaterial primarily composed of calcium carbonate or other insoluble carbonate materials susceptible to breakage. Therefore, breakage has a crucial impact on the change of calcareous sand granulation and the shape of ...

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their
