Optimal Energy-Delay in Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Networks with Interference Channels

open access: yesSensors, 2019
In this work, we investigate the capacity allocation problem in the energy harvesting wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with interference channels. For the fixed topologies of data and energy, we formulate the optimization problem when the data flow ...

Joint Resource and Trajectory Optimization for Energy Efficiency Maximization in UAV-Based Networks

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
The explosive growth of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)-based networks has accelerated in recent years. One of the crucial tasks of a UAV-based network is managing and allocating resources, including time, power, fly trajectory, and energy resources.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Recent Theoretical Advances in Non-Convex Optimization

open access: yes, 2022
Motivated by recent increased interest in optimization algorithms for non-convex optimization in application to training deep neural networks and other optimization problems in data analysis, we give an overview of recent theoretical results on global performance guarantees of optimization algorithms for non-convex optimization. We start with classical

Optimal Resource Allocation for Two-User and Single-DF-Relay Network With Ambient Backscatter

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
In this paper, we investigate and analyze a two-user single decode-and-forward (DF) relay network with ambient backscatter communication capabilities, where the user nodes and the relay node are equipped with a wireless-powered device instead of embedded

Deep Successive Convex Approximation for Image Super-Resolution

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
Image super-resolution (SR), as one of the classic image processing issues, has attracted increasing attention from researchers. As a highly ill-conditioned, non-convex optimization issue, it is difficult for image SR to restore a high-resolution (HR ...

Soft Mechanical‐Electrical Logic Using Liquid Metal‐Filled 3D‐Printed Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present 3D‐printed soft mechanical–electrical logic elements that use liquid metal–filled silicone tubes actuated by thermoplastic polyurethane/polylactic acid (TPU/PLA) architectures to produce Boolean operations. Complementary normally open and normally closed unit cells perform repeatable binary transitions and can be combined into more complex ...

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,
