The [ADJ + as] intensifier construction in Māori English/Aotearoa English

open access: yesWorld Englishes, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 426-448, September 2026.
Abstract We introduce the Waikato Māori English Conversation (MEC) corpus, which consists of 43 dyadic conversations between 49 young adults who self‐recorded informal conversations with close friends, in their own homes, with no topic of conversation specified (83 hours of dialogue; nearly 800,000 words).

Origin of Long‐Wavelength Variations in Crustal Thickness on Rocky Planets

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract Long‐wavelength crustal thickness variations are observed on telluric planets, particularly on Mars and the Moon whereas Mercury appears to lack such variations. They may stem from two early‐stage positive feedback mechanisms that can emerge in stagnant‐lid planets.

How Modeling Assumptions Shape Predictions of Convective Mixing of Carbon Dioxide

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract We investigate how models of fluid properties and boundary conditions influence predictions of convective mixing in confined porous media, with relevance to subsurface carbon dioxide storage. Using high‐resolution simulations at high Rayleigh‐Darcy numbers (O(104 ${10}^{4}$)), we analyze miscible fluids with linear, nonlinear, and non ...

Adaptive Matrix‐Free Simulations of Fluid‐Filled Phase‐Field Fractures With Fixed‐Stress Coupling and Fracture‐Width Computation

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, Volume 127, Issue 15, 15 August 2026.
ABSTRACT Fluid‐filled phase‐field fracture simulations require robust, scalable solvers that can handle strongly nonlinear, non‐smooth mechanics and tightly coupled flow on locally refined meshes. In this work, we develop an adaptive finite element framework for quasi‐static, fluid‐filled phase‐field fractures that combines semi‐smooth Newton methods ...

Comparative Evaluation of Structure–Processing–Property Relationships in Flax, Hemp, and Cattail Discontinuous fiber Thermoset Composites

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 15, Page 13910-13926, 10 August 2026.
Needle punching reorients fibers from in‐plane direction toward z‐direction of the web, resulting in mechanical interlocking of fibers and reduction in the nonwoven mat thickness. ABSTRACT Replacement of glass fiber mats, utilized in large and complex composite parts in the transportation industry, with natural fiber mats requires knowledge of natural ...
