Equivalent definitions for non-equilibrium entropy

Physics Letters A, 1981
Abstract We show how three apparently independent definitions of entropy often used at different levels of the description of a many body system in a non-equilibrium state, are indeed equivalent. The proof relies on the appropriate definition of coarse grained variables and the use of Zwanzig's projection operator technique.

On the definition of entropy for non-equilibrium states

Zeitschrift für Physik A Hadrons and nuclei, 1969
In this paper it is demonstrated how the mathematical theory of stability of motion can be applied to kinetic equations, describing irreversible processes in an isolated, homogeneous system. It turns out that functions having all the properties of entropy exist throughout the domain of definition of the kinetic equations.

The Statistical Interpretation of Non-Equilibrium Entropy

1973
Boltzmann’s original scheme leading to the statistical interpretation of non-equilibrium entropy may be summarized as follows: Dynamics → Stochastic Process (kinetic equation) → Entropy. Recent computer experiments as well as spin echo experiments in dipolar coupled systems illustrate clearly the difficulties in Boltzmann’s derivation.

Non-equilibrium hydrodynamic fluctuations and a generalised entropy

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1982
Studies the non-equilibrium corrections to the classical Landau-Lifshitz formulae for the fluctuations of the heat flux and of the viscous pressure. The authors' analysis is based both on a non-equilibrium entropy and on a microscopic model. The results are of the same order but not coincident.

The Non-Equilibrium Entropy in Nuclear Reaction System

Communications in Theoretical Physics, 1997
The non-equilibrium entropies for both close and open systems are studied based on the nonlinear occupation number equation. The relations between transport coefficients and nuclear temperature parameter are obtained analytically. The single-particle occupation number equation for the open system is established and its numerical solutions are given ...

Non-equilibrium entropy on stationary Markov processes

Acta Applicandae Mathematicae, 1985
We study the evolution of probability measures under the action of stationary Markov processes by means of a non-equilibrium entropy defined in terms of a convex function \(\phi\). We prove that the convergence of the non-equilibrium entropy to zero for all measures of finite entropy is independent of \(\phi\) for a wide class of convex functions ...

Phase Transformations and Entropy of Non-Equilibrium Materials

2014
Time-resolved vibrational spectra through the glass transition in the bulk metallic glass CuZr were acquired with inelastic neutron scattering. Vibrational density of states (DOS) in ranges as small as 4K were extracted from continuous heating through the glass transition.
