Local non-equilibrium thermodynamics [PDF]
AbstractLocal Shannon entropy lies at the heart of modern thermodynamics, with much discussion of trajectory-dependent entropy production. When taken at both boundaries of a process in phase space, it reproduces the second law of thermodynamics over a finite time interval for small scale systems.

Entanglement production in non-equilibrium thermodynamics [PDF]
We define and analyse the concept of entanglement production during the evolution of a general quantum mechanical dissipative system. While it is important to minimise entropy production in order to achieve thermodynamical efficiency, maximising the rate of change of entanglement is important in quantum information processing.

Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics and Topology of Currents [PDF]
In many experimental situations, a physical system undergoes stochastic evolution which may be described via random maps between two compact spaces. In the current work, we study the applicability of large deviations theory to time-averaged quantities which describe such stochastic maps, in particular time-averaged currents and density functionals.

Non-equilibrium thermodynamics of concentration polarization [PDF]
Ultrafiltration is a membrane separation process with many applications, including the treatment of industrial wastes and the processing of milk and juices. Academics are also interested in ultrafiltration as a possible tool for measuring empirical coefficients such as the diffusion coefficient and the permeability.

Dissipation in non-equilibrium spacetime thermodynamics
It has been recently realized [1, 2] that the thermodynamical derivation of the Einstein equation introduced by Jacobson [3] needs a generalization to a non-equilibrium thermodynamical setting. Here we show that the non-equilibrium character of spacetime thermodynamics – both in GR as well as in f(R) gravity – is generally related to non-local heat ...
