Thermodynamics and Dynamic Stability: Extended Theories of Heat Conduction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The fundamental dynamic stability of heat conduction theories beyond Fourier is analyzed in the framework of nonequilibrium thermodynamics. It is shown, that the thermodynamic framework, concave entropy and nonnegative entropy production, can ensure the stability of homogeneous thermodynamic equilibrium.

Adsorption and Separation by Flexible MOFs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) present significant potential for gas storage and separation due to their structural dynamic. This review explores the rationale behind the flexible MOFs' enhanced working capacity and separation factors. It also addresses key challenges, including phase transition kinetics, crystal robustness, cycling, shaping,

The Influence of Ionizing Radiation on Quantification for In Situ and Operando Liquid‐Phase Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables visualization of nanoscale processes involving liquid media. Yet, it suffers from beam effects, such as radiolysis of the liquid, sample heating, and membrane charging. This review summarizes beam effect fundamentals, describes modeling and assessment, and illustrates handling strategies.

Frozen by Heating: Temperature Controlled Dynamic States in Droplet Microswimmers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
In the design of smart materials based on active agents or microswimmers, the gaits or motile states of the agents are to be controlled, preferably by external parameters that do not require modifying the composition of the system. A facile, universal parameter is temperature.
