Environmental Pollution, 2020
Vehicular non-exhaust emissions account for a significant share of atmospheric particulate matter (PM) pollution, but few studies have successfully quantified the contribution of non-exhaust emissions via real-world measurements. Here, we conduct a comprehensive study combining tunnel measurements, laboratory dynamometer and resuspension experiments ...

Preview on Future Developments of Non-exhaust Emissions
2021Future regulations for emissions will increasingly focus on reducing respirable particles, which are caused by abrasion from brakes, tires and roads. PMP (Particle Measurement Program) under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has already defined a measurement cycle together with international organizations to measure brake wear ...

European Emission Inventories and Projections for Road Transport Non-Exhaust Emissions
2018The relative contribution of wear emissions to urban road transport PM10 emissions has steadily grown and reaches more than 50% in many countries. Based on reported emissions by European countries for brake and tire wear and road abrasion, an overview of the emissions for Europe is presented and further analyzed for gaps and consistency.

Science of The Total Environment, 2010
From research on PM(2.5) and PM(10) in 2007/2008 in the Netherlands, it was concluded that the coarse fraction (PM(2.5-10)) attributed 60% and 50% respectively, to the urban-regional and street-urban increments of PM(10). Contrary to Scandinavian and Mediterranean countries which exhibit significant seasonal variation in the coarse fraction of ...

Non-exhaust PM emissions from electric vehicles
Atmospheric Environment, 2016Particulate matter (PM) exposure has been linked to adverse health effects by numerous studies. Therefore, governments have been heavily incentivising the market to switch to electric passenger cars in order to reduce air pollution. However, this literature review suggests that electric vehicles may not reduce levels of PM as much as expected, because ...

S.I.S.T.E.R.: An Integrated Approach to Non-Exhaust Emissions
SAE Technical Paper Series<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">As electric mobility spreads and evolves, non-exhaust Particulate Matter (PM) sources are gaining more attention for total vehicular emissions. A holistic approach for studying the involved phenomena is necessary to identify the parameters that have the greatest impact on this ...

Non-exhaust emission measurement system of the mobile laboratory SNIFFER
Atmospheric Environment, 2009In this paper we describe and quality assure the sampling system of a mobile research laboratory SNIFFER which was shown to be a useful tool for studying emission levels of respirable dust from street surfaces. The dust plume had bimodal structure; another mode rising to higher altitudes whereas the other mode remained at lower altitudes.

Characteristics and Mitigation of Vehicular Non-exhaust Particle Emissions in Nordic Conditions
2019Assessment of air pollution health effects of road traffic should accurately characterize also the non-exhaust sources to support efficient emission mitigation. The use of the recently developed new-generation non-exhaust emission models opens new opportunities to extend and improve the traffic PM emission factors and the emission inventories.

Non-exhaust vehicle emissions of particulate matter and VOC from road traffic
Atmospheric Environment, 2021As exhaust emissions of particles and volatile organic compounds (VOC) from road vehicles have progressively come under greater control, non-exhaust emissions have become an increasing proportion of the total emissions, and in many countries now exceed exhaust emissions.
