Tensin1 expression and function in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
open access articleChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) constitutes a major cause of morbidity and mortality. Genome wide association studies have shown significant associations between airflow obstruction or COPD with a non-synonymous SNP in ...

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

The evolution of metazoan extracellular matrix [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The modular domain structure of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins and their genes has allowed extensive exon/domain shuffling during evolution to generate hundreds of ECM proteins.

Enter the Matrix: Fibroblast-immune cell interactions shape extracellular matrix deposition in health and disease. [version 2; peer review: 1 approved, 2 approved with reservations]

open access: yesF1000Research
Fibroblasts, non-hematopoietic cells of mesenchymal origin, are tissue architects which regulate the topography of tissues, dictate tissue resident cell types, and drive fibrotic disease.

Cold Atmospheric Plasma‐Activated Decellularized Extracellular Matrix Gel as a Tumor‐Infiltrating Immunoactivation Platform for Post‐Surgical Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An injectable cold atmospheric plasma‐activated decellularized tumor extracellular matrix hydrogel is introduced as a post‐surgical immunoactivation platform. The engineered gel attracts residual tumor cells and induces immunogenic cell death, reshaping the tumor microenvironment and eliciting systemic antitumor immunity. In combination with checkpoint

The hierarchical response of human corneal collagen to load [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Fibrillar collagen in the human cornea is integral to its function as a transparent lens of precise curvature, and its arrangement is now well-characterised in the literature. While there has been considerable effort to incorporate fibrillar architecture

Hydro‐Torsional Compaction for Scalable Production of Aramid Nanofiber Threads with Densely Assembled Double‐Helical Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This paper introduces a scalable strategy for producing hierarchically aligned PBDT threads through wet‐spinning, controlled drawing, and post‐spinning twisting. Ionic crosslinking reinforces structural stability, whereas alignment and twisting optimize mechanical performance.

Expression of a human cartilage procollagen gene (COL2A1) in mouse 3T3 cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Expression in a recombinant system has been difficult to obtain for any of the major fibrillar collagens that require processing by eight or more post-translational enzymes.

Advanced Mounting Technique for Improved Imaging and Analysis of Embedded Spheroids and Migrating Cells in Light Sheet Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A novel sample holder compatible with the Zeiss Lightsheet 7 microscope improves imaging of spheroids embedded in collagen matrices. By enabling dual‐sided illumination, it enhances image quality and quantitative analysis of migrating cells. This method advances 3D light sheet microscopy for studying tumor invasion and therapeutic responses.
