Six Common Mistakes in Conservation Priority Setting

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 27, Issue 3, Page 480-485, June 2013., 2013
Abstract A vast number of prioritization schemes have been developed to help conservation navigate tough decisions about the allocation of finite resources. However, the application of quantitative approaches to setting priorities in conservation frequently includes mistakes that can undermine their authors’ intention to be more rigorous and scientific

Unravelling the spatial and temporal variability of natural disturbances in European forests

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 4, April 2026.
The heterogeneity of natural disturbance patterns and high temporal variability across European Forest suggest the need of adopting context‐dependent management strategies tailored to both the dominant disturbance agent and local environmental conditions, particularly in the most vulnerable regions, such as the Iberian Peninsula—with large and frequent

Single‐source precursor synthesis of a compositionally complex early transitional metal nitride (V, Nb, Ta, Mo, W)Nx and its high temperature stability

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Compositionally complex transitional metal nitrides are an interesting class of ceramics with superior chemical, thermal, and mechanical stability, with a high potential in ultra‐high temperature applications and catalysis. The exceptionality in the properties may partly be explained as a consequence of their high configuration entropy ...

DIE ARBEIT DES ÜBERSETZENS: RILKE UND MICHELANGELO („SE ’L MIE ROZZO MARTELLO‘‘)

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, Volume 78, Issue 2, Page 194-216, April 2025.
ABSTRACT This essay examines Rainer Maria Rilke's reception of the sculptor and poet Michelangelo in the context of interest in the Renaissance around 1900, focusing first on the Stundenbuch, the Florenzer Tagebuch and the story ʻVon einem, der die Steine belauschtʼ (from the prose collection: Geschichten vom lieben Gott).

A Topological Parametric Phonon Oscillator

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 2, January 15, 2025.
A topological parametric phonon oscillator is experimentally realized based on a nonlinear nano‐electromechanical Dirac‐vortex cavity with strong squeezed interaction. Fabrication‐disorder‐induced random frequency variation can be suppressed effectively by increasing the cavity size, while the free spectral range reduces at a much slower rate.

Descartes on Place and Motion: A Reading through Cartesian Commentaries**

open access: yesBerichte zur Wissenschaftsgeschichte, Volume 47, Issue 3, Page 179-214, September 2024.
Abstract This paper offers a reconstruction of the interpretations of Descartes's ideas of place and motion by Dutch Cartesians (Henricus Regius, Johannes de Raey, Johannes Clauberg, and Christoph Wittich). It does so by focusing on the reading of Descartes's Principia philosophiae (1644) offered, in particular, by the dictated commentaries on it.

Configurazioni di un tempo «futurista»

open access: yesLocvs Amoenvs, 2014
Questo saggio analizza un periodo limitato del movimento futurista italiano (1912- 1914), centrando l’attenzione su come alcuni dei suoi protagonisti (pittori, scultori, architetti) interpretano lo «spazio», quale cosciente registrazione del tempo ...

Culture as response

open access: yesEthos, Volume 52, Issue 2, Page 308-323, June 2024.
Abstract To explain cultural diversity, many theories refer to the social construction of reality. In this telling, we frame the world to make it meaningful. In my analysis of what people in Namibia and Germany know about “SARS‐Cov‐2” and “climate change,” I propose an anti‐constructivist alternative. Drawing on the work of the phenomenologist Bernhard
