A dual pollination strategy combining perfume attraction and food deception in Galeandra blanchetii E.S. Rand (Orchidaceae)

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Galeandra blanchetii exhibits a dual‐attraction strategy: male euglossine bees are lured by floral scents as a resource, while both sexes are deceived by non‐existent nectar. Pollination only occurs when bees enter the spur to search for nectar, highlighting an evolutionary transition towards the perfume flower syndrome in Catasetinae.

Functional characterization of AarMIXTAs as essential regulators in T-shaped non-glandular trichome development of Artemisia argyi

open access: yesAdvanced Biotechnology
Abstract Trichomes are crucial for plant defense and secondary metabolite biosynthesis. In Artemisia argyi, T-shaped non-glandular trichomes (TSTs) are a defining morphological feature and the primary structural component of moxa floss. We observed pronounced TST accumulation on the lower leaf surfaces.

Leaf trichome diversity in Ehretiaceae [PDF]

open access: yesرستنی‌ها
Leaf trichomes are important components of plants in systematics, morphology, defense mechanisms, and ecological interactions. In this study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine leaf trichomes of 15 species of Ehretiaceae (Boraginales),

A Critique of the Taxonomy of Subtribe Celmisiinae (Asteraceae: Tribe Astereae) With New Combinations in Pleurophyllum Hook.f. sens. lat. and Shawia hesperia (Heenan & Molloy) Heenan comb. nov.

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Botany, Volume 64, Issue 4, December 2026.
This review is of the recently revised circumscriptions of the Pleurophyllum Hook.f. group and Shawia J.R.Forst. & G.Forst. of subtribe Celmisiinae, both centred in New Zealand. Recognition of Shawia is supported, and phylogenetic data recover seven well‐supported subclades treated as infrageneric sections.

Lignin strips in glandular trichomes

open access: yes
Compartmentalization of specialized compounds in glandular trichomes is essential for plant protection against stresses and attraction of pollinators. This compartmentalization is achieved by the establishment of a lignin-based apoplastic barrier named ...

Tracking Sodium Inside the Plant: Hydraulic Adjustments to Deal With Salinity

open access: yesJournal of Agronomy and Crop Science, Volume 212, Issue 6, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Sorghum is a crop that has become more relevant in recent years due to its uses and properties (biofuel, gluten‐free flour) as well as its versatility to grow in unfavourable environmental conditions. Salinity is one of the main abiotic stresses affecting crop production and yield worldwide.

Separate and synergistic anti‐herbivore effects of non‐glandular trichomes and leaf chemistry in a desert plant

open access: yesFunctional Ecology
Abstract Plant defence phenotypes commonly integrate physical and chemical traits that may act synergistically against herbivores, but empirical evidence for synergy as a defence strategy remains limited.

Trichomes as Defensive Structures in Plants: Morphological, Anatomical, and Ecological Perspectives Across Selected Species

open access: yesShodh Sari
This research examines the role of trichomes in five selected plant species: chili (Capsicum annuum L.), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), radish (Raphanus sativus L.), ridge gourd (Luffa acutangular (L.) Roxb.), and bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.).

Structural investigation of the glandular trichomes of endemic Salvia smyrnea L. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The morphology, anatomy and distribution of glandular trichomes on the aerial organs of Salvia smyrnea L. endemic to Turkey have been investigated with light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This species is evaluated in endangered (
