Biophysical characterization of reactions associated with reverse cholesterol transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis aimed at improving our understanding of reactions relevant in the reverse cholesterol transport (RCT). RCT facilitates cholesterol homeostasis and is the most important pathway involved in cardiovascular disease.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Usefulness of Non-High-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol for Screening Dyslipidemia in Children and Adolescents with Overweight or Obesity: A Single-Center Retrospective Study

open access: yesChildren
Background/Objectives: Non-high-density lipoprotein (non-HDL) cholesterol provides a practical alternative for assessing dyslipidemia, with the advantage of not requiring fasting.

Metabolic and Microvascular Risk Factors Associated With Brain Health in Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We examined relationships between metabolic factors, microvascular complications, and brain health in adults with type 1 diabetes. Fifty‐one adults were assessed for metabolic risk factors, microvascular complications, and cognitive function, with a subset completing brain MRI.

Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (H-LDL) and remnant non-HDL cholesterol: any reason to change the order when assessing cardiovascular risk?

open access: yesМедицинский совет, 2013
The paper reviews the relevance of various types of cholesterol as factors of cardiovascular risks. According to recent recommendations, apart from the routinely evaluated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-H), clinicians now look at non-HDL (high-

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Coronary Artery Calcium Progression: A Case Cohort Analysis From ELSA‐Brasil

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To investigate the association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) prevalence, incidence, and progression over four years in adults without prior cardiovascular disease. Methods A case‐cohort study within the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA‐Brasil) included 585 participants (86 patients with ...

Fibrates Inhibit PLTP‐induced M2 Macrophage Infiltration and Increase the Sensitivity of Hepatocellular Carcinoma to ICIs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phospholipid transfer protein(PLTP) plays a critical role in forming a complex with kinase A (AURKA) and P65. This interaction facilitates phosphorylation of P65 at Ser536, leading to the activation of the NF‐κB signaling pathway. Ultimately, this leads to the upregulation of downstream cytokines, including IL‐6, IL‐8, and CSF‐1, which promotes M2 ...

Agnuside Stabilizes the Complex I Assembly Factor NDUFAF6 to Reinforce Mitochondrial Efficiency and Thermogenic Responsiveness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Brown and beige adipocytes dissipate energy as heat, yet effective strategies to enhance their mitochondrial efficiency remain limited. Here, we identify Agnuside (AGN) as a selective stabilizer of the complex I assembly factor NDUFAF6. AGN directly binds cytosolic NDUFAF6, suppresses its ubiquitination, prolongs its half‐life, and facilitates
