AI in chemical engineering: From promise to practice

open access: yesAIChE Journal, Volume 72, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Artificial intelligence (AI) in chemical engineering has moved from promise to practice: physics‐aware (gray‐box) models are gaining traction, reinforcement learning complements model predictive control (MPC), and generative AI powers documentation, digitization, and safety workflows.

Optimal Control of Mobile Energy Storage via Knowledge‐Guided Deep Reinforcement Learning

open access: yesBattery Energy, Volume 5, Issue 4, July 2026.
This research proposes a Knowledge‐Guided DRL framework (KA‐DDPG) for mobile energy storage. By integrating offline optimization as expert guidance to manage hybrid action spaces and environmental uncertainties, our method achieves significantly higher arbitrage profits and superior operational stability compared to standard reinforcement learning and ...

Selective Optical Properties of Cement for Enhanced Radiative Cooling and Energy‐Efficient Construction Materials

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 4, July 2026.
Cement phases are good materials for radiative cooling thanks to the selective emissivity in IR ATW. Cement powders have high reflectance of solar radiation which reduces the thermal losses. The onset of the absorption curves is defined by bound excitons. Sulfates have higher radiated powers and reflectance than calcium silicates.

Ordered Nanostructural Engineering of Cathode Catalyst Layer With High Mass Transport Efficiency for High‐Performance Ultra‐Low Pt Loading Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 4, July 2026.
An ordered cathode catalyst layer with efficient mass transport capability was developed based on the ALD of Pt onto VACNTs for high‐performance ultra‐low Pt loading PEMFC. The order‐structured cathode catalyst layer (CCL) has been considered the most promising solution to construct low‐cost proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) with an ultra ...
