Coherence length in non-Kolmogorov satellite links
Optics Communications, 2013Abstract Behavior of the coherence length in non-Kolmogorov satellite links is investigated. Equivalent structure constants for non-Kolmogorov spectra are employed in order to make relevant comparisons for different non-Kolmogorov power law exponents.

Measuring non-Kolmogorov turbulence
We have performed a series of experiments aiming at understanding the statistics of deep turbulence over cities. The experimental setup consisted of a Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor and an imaging camera that simultaneously recorded wavefront-, and focal-plane data, respectively.

Intensity Fluctuations of Laser Array Beams in Non-Kolmogorov Turbulence
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2015On-axis intensity fluctuations of laser array beams are evaluated when they are used in a weakly turbulent non-Kolmogorov atmosphere. Our formulation of the scintillation index is based on the Rytov method, which in the limiting case, correctly reduces to the known Gaussian beam scintillation index in weak Kolmogorov turbulence.

Karhunen–Loeve functions for non-Kolmogorov turbulence
Journal of Turbulence, 2017ABSTRACTKarhunen–Loeve functions for the case of non-Kolmogorov turbulence are calculated. The calculations are performed using the covariance matrix of Zernike coefficients which is derived in analytical form. It is shown that the Karhunen–Loeve expansion is more efficient than the Zernike one for simulations of high-order, turbulence-induced phase ...

Saturation of anisoplanatic error in Kolmogorov and non-Kolmogorov turbulence
This work explores the conditions resulting in the saturation of angular anisoplanatic error. When turbulence is modeled with a von Kármán outer scale or when the piston and aperture tilt are compensated the anisoplanatic error can saturate to less than one squared radian.

Anisotropic non-Kolmogorov turbulence phase screens with variable orientation
We describe a modification to fast Fourier transform (FFT)-based, subharmonic, phase screen generation techniques that accounts for non-Kolmogorov and anisotropic turbulence. Our model also allows for the angle of anisotropy to vary in the plane orthogonal to the direction of propagation. In addition, turbulence strength in our model is specified via a

Impact of Non-Kolmogorov Turbulence on Scintillometer
OSA Imaging and Applied Optics Congress 2021 (3D, COSI, DH, ISA, pcAOP), 2021This study uses simulation to explore the effects of experimentally measured non-Kolmogorov turbulence on scintillometer readings. The results show that the useful- ness of the scintillometer readings depends on the turbulence characteristics.

Causes of non-Kolmogorov turbulence in the atmosphere
Applied Optics, 2016In the present work, we briefly describe a model for atmospheric turbulence energy on the basis of experimental data obtained in Siberia. A series of new studies is considered and the results of our long-term experimental observations are summarized. The results of these studies form the basis for an explanation of some effects in interactions between ...

Optical propagation through non-Kolmogorov turbulence
Science China Information Sciences, 2012In this paper, the effects of the generalized exponent, the height and the zenith angle on the log-amplitude variance in the weak fluctuation are investigated. The theoretical results indicate that for the downlink, the log-amplitude variance of the Kolmogorov model is always smaller than that of the three-layer model, while for the uplink, there is a ...
