Temporal properties of Zernike modes for non-Kolmogorov turbulence

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
Temporal properties of Zernike modes are investigated for the case of light wave propagation through the non-Kolmogorov turbulence. The calculations are performed for the weak-turbulence conditions with constant turbulence parameters along the propagation path and taking into account the effects of the outer and inner scale of the turbulence.

Assessing the role of urban blue space in summer outdoor thermal regulation in northwestern Europe: A hectometric Weather Research and Forecasting modelling on idealized urban landscape

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Using hectometric Weather Research and Forecasting simulations, we examine how urban blue spaces mitigate extreme summer heat in northwestern European cities through neighbourhood‐scale cooling mechanisms. Results show horizontal advection dominates cooling by mixing cooler air from waterbodies with warmer urban air, providing ∼50W·m−2$$ \sim 50\kern0 ...

Shell to shell energy transfer in MHD, Part I: steady state turbulence

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate the transfer of energy from large scales to small scales in fully developed forced three-dimensional MHD-turbulence by analyzing the results of direct numerical simulations in the absence of an externally imposed uniform magnetic field ...

Equivalent refractive-index structure constant of non-Kolmogorov turbulence

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
The relationship between the non-Kolmogorov refractive-index structure constant and the Kolmogorov refractive-index structure constant is derived by using the refractive-index structure function and the variance of refractive-index fluctuations. It shows that the non-Kolmogorov structure constant is proportional to the Kolmogorov structure constant and

Market‐Driving Capability: An Empirical Study on Antecedents and Consequences

open access: yesBritish Journal of Management, EarlyView.
Abstract What enables market‐driving behaviour, and is it a worthwhile business strategy? This fundamental question intrigues both managers in firms and researchers in marketing and strategic management, yet surprisingly, it remains underexplored. To this end, we assess the antecedents and consequences of market‐driving capability.

Free space optical system performance for a Gaussian beam propagating through non Kolmogorov weak turbulence

open access: yes, 2009
Atmospheric turbulence has been described for many years by Kolmogorov's power spectral density model because of its simplicity. Unfortunately several experiments have been reported recently that show Kolmogorov theory is sometimes incomplete to describe

Points vs. passes: A comparison between electric fishing techniques for sampling fish populations in upland headwater streams

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Point‐abundance sampling by electric fishing (PASE) was compared with single‐pass (DF1) and triple‐pass depletion sampling (DF3) electric fishing on the same reaches of four headwater streams sampled over multiple years in the Ribble catchment, UK. Juvenile salmonids, mostly brown trout Salmo trutta with some Atlantic salmon S.

Relic Backgrounds of Gravitational Waves from Cosmic Turbulence

open access: yes, 2002
Turbulence may have been produced in the early universe during several kind of non-equilibrium processes. Periods of cosmic turbulence may have left a detectable relic in the form of stochastic backgrounds of gravitational waves.

Path dependency and angular anisoplanatism in non-Kolmogorov turbulence [PDF]

open access: yes2015 IEEE Aerospace Conference, 2015
We examine the effect of non-Kolmogorov turbulence on angular anisoplanatism. Generalized expressions for the isoplanatic angle in turbulence with non-Kolmogorov power-laws are developed in terms of the effective turbulence height, related turbulence moments, and characteristics lengths such as Striblings equivalent Fried parameter. We then compare the

Is acquisition‐related foreign direct investment during an economic crisis detrimental for domestic innovation?

open access: yesThe Scandinavian Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract We study how acquisition‐related foreign direct investment during economic crises affects R&D investments and the direction of innovation of target firms, compared with acquisitions made during periods of strong economic growth. Using a panel of Spanish firms, we find that foreign multinationals cherry‐pick the best domestic firms ...
