Non-linear Analysis Methods

This appendix covers two non-linear analysis methods used in earthquake engineering: non-linear pushover analysis (also known as ‘non-linear static analysis’) and non-linear response history analysis (also known as ‘non-linear time history’ or ‘non-linear dynamic’ analysis).

Analysis of orthotropic bearing non-linearity using non-linear FRFs

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2006
Among other critical conditions in rotor systems the large non-linear vibration excited by bearing non-linearity causes the rotor failure. For reducing this catastrophic failure and predictive detection of this phenomenon the analysis of orthotropic bearing non-linearity in rotor system using higher order frequency response functions (HFRFs) is ...

Non-linear Process Analysis

2002
Mathematics is the language universally used to describe and analyze phenomena and processes both natural and artificial. Thus, the importance of system theory in science and technology is apparent. For example, most of the processes of interest in chemical engineering are described with complex, and often nonlinear, mathematical models.

Non-linear analysis of frames

Computers & Structures, 1992
Abstract A simple and easily programmable technique is proposed for the second-order analysis of frames. This technique involves the iterative process with modification of the stiffness matrix as well as the load vector in each iteration. Both curvature and sway effects are included. A numerical example is included to illustrate the results.

Non-Linear BWR Stability Analysis

Volume 1: Plant Operations, Maintenance, Installations and Life Cycle; Component Reliability and Materials Issues; Advanced Applications of Nuclear Technology; Codes, Standards, Licensing and Regulatory Issues, 2008
Power oscillations associated with density waves in boiling water reactors (BWRs) have been studied widely. Industrial research in this area is active since the invention of the first BWR. Stability measurements have been performed in various plants already during commissioning phase but especially the magnitude and divergent nature of the oscillations

Robust non‐linear regression analysis

Journal of Chemometrics, 1995
AbstractSeveral robust regression methods, including a new proposal, are described and their properties discussed. Resistance to various types of outliers and non‐normality is demonstrated. The techniques are applied to non‐linear regression models from chemical kinetics and calibration. Optimization of the types of objective functions encountered when

Non‐linear dynamic analysis of axisymmetric shells

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1975
AbstractIncremental equations of motion are derived from a Lagrangian variational formulation for the large displacement elastic‐plastic and elastic‐viscoplastic dynamic analysis of deformable bodies. The material constitutive behaviour is described in terms of the symmetric Piola–Kirchhoff stress and Lagrangian strain tensors. Degenerate isoparametric

Non‐linear analysis of the sleep EEG

Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, 1999
A sleep electroencephalogram was analyzed by non‐linear analysis. The polysomnography of a healthy male subject was analyzed and the correlation dimensions calculated. The correlation dimensions decreased from the ‘awake’ stage to sleep stages 1–3 and increased during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. These results were seen during each sleep cycle.
