Interaction between non‐linear loads and synchronous generators

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 1992
AbstractIn this paper the problem of the interaction between synchronous generator and non‐linear load is considered. The problem taken into account is the determination of voltage and current waveforms as well as the calculation methodologies related to it. The following paper ends with a relative numerical application.

Non-linear load compensation using STATCOM

2016 International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electrical Electronics & Sustainable Energy Systems (ICETEESES), 2016
In this paper, a dc voltage controller along with a decoupled current control has been presented for the compensation of non-linear load using FACTS device STATCOM which also secures the unity power factor (UPF) at the point of common coupling. The STATCOM is employed with a three phase voltage source inverter (VSI) and dc capacitor.

Non linear models and the load of an electricity distributor

International Journal of Energy Sector Management, 2015
Purpose– The purpose of this study is to ascertain whether nonlinearities could be present in electricity loads observed in subtropical environments, where none or little heating is required, and whether threshold autoregressive (TAR)-type regime switching models could be advantageous in the modeling of those loads.Design/methodology/approach– The ...

Simulation of non-linear loads for harmonic studies

11th International Conference on Electrical Power Quality and Utilisation, 2011
Recently, more attention is given to harmonic assessment of nonlinear loads due to the penetration of such devices on power systems which cause detrimental effects to the power system and other users. In order to quantify these distortions precisely, two commonly used topologies for implementation in Personal Computers (PCs) are modeled and accurately ...

Non-linear response of a beam to periodic loading

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 1972
Abstract The steady state response of a non-linear beam under periodic excitation is investigated. The non-linearity is attributed to the membrane tension effect which is induced in the beam when the deflection is not small in comparison to its thickness.

Load-Rate Sensitivity in 1D Non-Linear Viscoelastic Model

Key Engineering Materials, 2011
Load-rate sensitivity of material is important in impact and other dynamic loadings. It is assumed that the strain-rate sensitivity is not a material property but comes out naturally from dynamic equilibrium equations. Material is assumed non-linear, similar as used in the microplane model for quasi-brittle materials, and viscoelastic arranged into ...

Design of stand-by generators for non-linear loads

Conference Record of the 1992 IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, 2003
The author discusses the causes of the problems and the design changes possible in the generator to minimize the voltage waveform distortion. A method for calculating the additional losses in the generator due to harmonic currents is presented. The discussion refers specifically to generators of the salient pole type in the 10-2000 kW range, but the ...

The influence of the non-linearity of electric loads on capacitive compensation

2012 IEEE 15th International Conference on Harmonics and Quality of Power, 2012
The analysis of the power factor and the level of harmonic distortion in an electric system in the presence of non-linear loads are of importance in terms of the legislation enforced by the National Agency of Electric Energy (ANEEL). In this context, this paper uses computer simulation to analyze the influence of the Total and Individual Harmonic ...

Load Incrementation in a Non-linear Analysis

2014
A structure can be loaded by a number of loads of different type. We restrict ourselves to force-type loads such as forces, moments and distributed loads like line and surface loads, e.g. pressure. The reference loads contained in the vector f 0 ext can be increased proportionally.
