Probabilistic Approach for better Buckling Knock-down Factors of CFRP Cylindrical Shells - Tests and Analyses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The industry in the fields of civil and mechanical engineering, and in particular of aerospace demands for significantly reduced development and operating costs. Reduction of structural weight at safe design is one avenue to achieve this objective.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Optimal day-ahead operation of user-level integrated energy system considering dynamic behaviour of heat loads

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
During the operation of the integrated energy system (IES), the dynamic behaviour of heat loads can affect the optimal operation strategy. This study proposes a novel optimal day-ahead operation method of user-level IES considering the dynamic behaviour ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Elastic-Plastic Non Linear Behaviors of Suddenly Loaded Structures [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences, 2011
Problem statement: The adaptively shifted integration technique was applied to the elasticplastic analysis of framed structures under dynamic loading. Approach: This study used analysis of linear beam element, the reshifting of the of the integration points in the element is conducted in order to attain higher accuracy.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Decentralized Goal-Function-Based Microgrid Primary Control with Voltage Harmonics Compensation

open access: yesEnergies
This paper proposes goal-function-based decentralized control of microgrids. In addition to being an instrument for maintaining the grid voltage and frequency stability, each grid-tie inverter generates a current component with the aim of compensating ...
