Evolving Methods in Genetic Epidemiology. IV. Approaches to Non-Mendelian Inheritance [PDF]

open access: yesEpidemiologic Reviews, 1997
From this overview it can be concluded that the understanding of the biologic properties and the development of analytic tools to identify repeat sequence mutations, genomic imprinting effects, and mitochondrial mutations are only beginning. Development of approaches to identify such phenomena as modifying effects or genetic components of complex ...

The role of haplotype complementation and purifying selection in the genome evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We discuss two different ways of chromosomes' and genomes' evolution. Purifying selection dominates in large panmictic populations, where Mendelian law of independent gene assortment is valid. If the populations are small, recombination processes are not

A panoramic view of cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae: From genetic architectures to precision genomic selection

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
This study identified 10 reliable quantitative trait loci (QTLs) governing cotton resistance to V. dahliae in various environments through a genome‐wide association analysis (GWAS) using an upland cotton population. The pyramid of these 10 elite alleles reduced the disease index of cotton to V. dahliae from 70 to 20.

Drug resistance in idiopathic generalized epilepsies: Evidence and concepts

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 63, Issue 12, Page 3007-3019, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Although approximately 10%–15% of patients with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE)/genetic generalized epilepsy remain drug‐resistant, there is no consensus or established concept regarding the underlying mechanisms and prevalence. This review summarizes the recent data and the current hypotheses on mechanisms that may contribute to drug ...

A systems medicine strategy to predict the efficacy of drugs for monogenic epilepsies

open access: yesEpilepsia, Volume 63, Issue 12, Page 3125-3133, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Monogenic epilepsies are rare but often severe. Because of their rarity, they are neglected by traditional drug developers. Hence, many lack effective treatments. Treatments for a disease can be discovered more quickly and economically by computationally predicting drugs that can be repurposed for it.

Regularity inheritance in pseudorandom graphs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Advancing the sparse regularity method, we prove one-sided and two-sided regularity inheritance lemmas for subgraphs of bijumbled graphs, improving on results of Conlon, Fox and Zhao [Adv. Math. 256 (2014), 206--290]. These inheritance lemmas also imply improved $H$-counting lemmas for subgraphs of bijumbled graphs, for some $H$.

Whole genome sequencing and rare variant analysis in essential tremor families.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Essential tremor (ET) is one of the most common movement disorders. The etiology of ET remains largely unexplained. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) is likely to be of value in understanding a large proportion of ET with Mendelian and complex disease ...

Microsatellite Genotyping of Post-PCR Fluorescently Labeled Markers

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2000
We show that a post-PCR multicolor fluorescence-labeling technique is applicable to multiplex microsatellite genotyping. Forty-three dinucleotide microsatellite markers, which are located on 11q13-23, a candidate region for dominant familial exudative ...
