Investigating microstructural variation in the human hippocampus using non-negative matrix factorization

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2020
In this work we use non-negative matrix factorization to identify patterns of microstructural variance in the human hippocampus. We utilize high-resolution structural and diffusion magnetic resonance imaging data from the Human Connectome Project to ...

Deciphering transcriptional plasticity in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma reveals alterations in sensory neuron innervation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Two-dimensional data partitioning for non-negative matrix tri-factorization

open access: yes
As a two-sided clustering and dimensionality reduction paradigm, Non-negative Matrix Tri-Factorization (NMTF) has attracted much attention in machine learning and data mining researchers due to its excellent performance and reliable theoretical support ...

Large Sparse Cone Non-negative Matrix Factorization for Image Annotation

open access: yes, 2017
Image annotation assigns relevant tags to query images based on their semantic contents. Since Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) has the strong ability to learn parts-based representations, recently, a number of algorithms based on NMF have been ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Non-Negative Matrix Factorization for Note Onset Detection of Audio Signals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A novel approach using non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) for onset detection of musical notes from audio signals is presented. Unlike most commonly used conventional approaches, the proposed method exploits a new detection function constructed from

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

Spectro-temporal post-enhancement using MMSE estimation in NMF based single-channel source separation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We propose to use minimum mean squared error (MMSE) estimates to enhance the signals that are separated by nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF). In single channel source separation (SCSS), NMF is used to train a set of basis vectors for each source ...
