Association of Elevated Serum S100A8/A9 Levels and Cognitive Impairment in Patients With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Cognitive impairment (CI) is common in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Despite its prevalence, the immune mechanisms are not well understood. We previously reported elevated serum levels of S100A8/A9 and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP‐9) in patients with SLE and CI.

Agreement of Administrative Pharmacy Dispensing With Self‐Reported Use of Oral Prednisone in US Veterans With Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Administrative claims are used to evaluate oral glucocorticoid use in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), despite limited evidence to support accuracy. We aimed to evaluate the performance of claims‐based algorithms for glucocorticoid use compared to self‐report in an RA population.

Towards a Fairer Non-negative Matrix Factorization

open access: yes
Topic modeling, or more broadly, dimensionality reduction, techniques provide powerful tools for uncovering patterns in large datasets and are widely applied across various domains. We investigate how Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF) can introduce bias in the representation of data groups, such as those defined by demographics or protected ...

LOXHD1 and RHOB Expression by Monocytes Predicts Progressive Systemic Sclerosis associated Interstitial Lung Disease

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective A leading cause of death among scleroderma (SSc) patients, interstitial lung disease (ILD) remains challenging to prognosticate. The discovery of biomarkers that accurately determine which patients would benefit from close monitoring and aggressive therapy would be an essential clinical tool.
