Filtration of non‐Newtonian fluids [PDF]
AbstractEquations of motion characterizing the flow of incompressible, time‐independent non‐Newtonian fluids, exhibiting the anomalous surface effect, through compressible porous media are developed. Approximations are made to arrive at workable filtration equations for slurries of non‐Newtonian (power‐law) fluids.

Convective Nonlinearity in Non-Newtonian Fluids [PDF]
In the limit of infinite yield time for stresses, the hydrodynamic equations for viscoelastic, Non-Newtonian liquids such as polymer melts must reduce to that for solids. This piece of information suffices to uniquely determine the nonlinear convective derivative, an ongoing point of contention in the rheology literature.

Drop Formation in Non-Newtonian Fluids [PDF]
We study the pinch-off dynamics of droplets of yield stress and shear thinning fluids. To separate the two non-Newtonian effects, we use a yield stress material for which the yield stress can be tuned without changing the shear thinning behavior, and a shear thinning system (without a yield stress) for which the shear thinning can be controlled over a ...

Lubrication with Non-Newtonian Fluids
Hydrodynamic lubrication is studied for both shear thinning and viscoelastic polymer solutions. We find that elasticity, notably strong normal stresses, does not change the friction significantly for the range of parameters tested in this manuscript.

The present paper summarizes various problems on non-Newtonian fluid mechanics. Due to complex rheological behaviors of non-Newtonian fluids, constitutive equations have highly nonlinear character. As two approaches to obtain constitutive equations, continuum mechanics and molecular theory are described, and then a number of models are presented ...

Codimensional non-Newtonian fluids [PDF]
We present a novel method to simulate codimensional non-Newtonian fluids on simplicial complexes. Our method extends previous work for codimensional incompressible flow to various types of non-Newtonian fluids including both shear thinning and thickening, Bingham plastics, and elastoplastics.

Non-Newtonian Properties of Relativistic Fluids [PDF]
We show that relativistic fluids behave as non-Newtonian fluids. First, we discuss the problem of acausal propagation in the diffusion equation and introduce the modified Maxwell-Cattaneo-Vernotte (MCV) equation. By using the modified MCV equation, we obtain the causal dissipative relativistic (CDR) fluid dynamics, where unphysical propagation with ...

Non-Newtonian behavior in simple fluids [PDF]
Using nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulations, we study the non-Newtonian rheology of a microscopic sample of simple fluid. The calculations were performed using a configurational thermostat which unlike previous nonequilibrium molecular dynamics or nonequilibrium Brownian dynamics methods does not exert any additional constraint on the flow ...

An Overview of Non-Newtonian Fluid
A non-Newtonian fluid is a fluid with a viscosity that varied under the action of applied stress or forces. It has novel properties that make them potentially useful in many applications in industrial process. Their various types of characteristics have led to much excitement in the field of environment. Non-Newtonian fluids are categorized as numerous
