Filtration of non‐Newtonian fluids [PDF]
AbstractEquations of motion characterizing the flow of incompressible, time‐independent non‐Newtonian fluids, exhibiting the anomalous surface effect, through compressible porous media are developed. Approximations are made to arrive at workable filtration equations for slurries of non‐Newtonian (power‐law) fluids.

Convective Nonlinearity in Non-Newtonian Fluids [PDF]
In the limit of infinite yield time for stresses, the hydrodynamic equations for viscoelastic, Non-Newtonian liquids such as polymer melts must reduce to that for solids. This piece of information suffices to uniquely determine the nonlinear convective derivative, an ongoing point of contention in the rheology literature.

Active colloids in complex fluids [PDF]
We review recent work on active colloids or swimmers, such as self-propelled microorganisms, phoretic colloidal particles, and artificial micro-robotic systems, moving in fluid-like environments. These environments can be water-like and Newtonian but can

Dynamics of a non-autonomous incompressible non-Newtonian fluid with delay [PDF]
We first study the well-posedness of a non-autonomous incompressible non-Newtonian fluid with delay. The existence of global solution is obtained by classical Galerkin approximation and the energy method.

Drop Formation in Non-Newtonian Fluids [PDF]
We study the pinch-off dynamics of droplets of yield stress and shear thinning fluids. To separate the two non-Newtonian effects, we use a yield stress material for which the yield stress can be tuned without changing the shear thinning behavior, and a shear thinning system (without a yield stress) for which the shear thinning can be controlled over a ...

The shear-driven Rayleigh problem for generalised Newtonian fluids [PDF]
We consider a variant of the classical ‘Rayleigh problem’ (‘Stokes’s first problem’) in which a semi-infinite region of initially quiescent fluid is mobilised by a shear stress applied suddenly to its boundary. We show that self-similar solutions for the

Non-Newtonian effects in the peristaltic flow of a Maxwell fluid [PDF]
We analyzed the effect of viscoelasticity on the dynamics of fluids in porous media by studying the flow of a Maxwell fluid in a circular tube, in which the flow is induced by a wave traveling on the tube wall.

High performance microfluidic rectifiers for viscoelastic fluid flow [PDF]
The flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids within microfluidic rectifiers with a hyperbolic shape was investigated to assess the effect of the bounding walls on the diodicity of the microfluidic device and achieve high flow anisotropy.

A three-dimensional immersed boundary method for non-Newtonian fluids [PDF]
Fluid-structure-interaction (FSI) phenomenon is common in science and engineering. The fluid involved in an FSI problem may be non-Newtonian such as blood. A popular framework for FSI problems is Peskin's immersed boundary (IB) method.

Micropropulsion and microrheology in complex fluids via symmetry breaking
Many biological fluids have polymeric microstructures and display non-Newtonian rheology. We take advantage of such nonlinear fluid behavior and combine it with geometrical symmetry-breaking to design a novel small-scale propeller able to move only in ...
