Non-Newtonian Fluids

2021
In this chapter we concentrate on a large class of problems arising from the dynamics of incompressible non-Newtonian fluids with nonstandard rheology. By non-Newtonian fluids we mean here fluids which do not satisfy Newton’s law of viscosity, i.e. viscosity is constant and independent of stress.

Non-Newtonian Fluids

1984
Fluids give and flow under stress. Newtonians are the simplest of fluids, and they are characterized by the property that the velocity gradient at a point is proportional to the shear stress at that point, thus $$({\rm{Shear\;rate}})\alpha ({\rm{shear\;stress}})\;\;{\rm{or}}\;\;{{du} \over {dy}}\alpha \tau$$ All other fluids are called non ...

A model equation for Non‐Newtonian fluids

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 1981
AbstractA one‐dimensional model for the equations of motion of a “simple fluid” according to Noll is proposed. An exterior problem for the model equation is solved by means of a transform method.

Sound Propagation in Non-Newtonian Fluids

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1973
A perturbation analysis is applied to the basic hydrodynamic equations and developed to determine the non-Newtonian effects of a small-signal plane wave propagating through a viscous fluid which is continuous, homogeneous, and isotropic. With the emphasis on liquids, the analysis is applied to the case of a Powell-Eyring fluid (which specializes to the

Electrokinetics of non-Newtonian fluids: A review

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2013
This work presents a comprehensive review of electrokinetics pertaining to non-Newtonian fluids. The topic covers a broad range of non-Newtonian effects in electrokinetics, including electroosmosis of non-Newtonian fluids, electrophoresis of particles in non-Newtonian fluids, streaming potential effect of non-Newtonian fluids and other related non ...

Viscous fingering in non-Newtonian fluids

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2002
We study the viscous fingering or Saffman–Taylor instability in two different dilute or semi-dilute polymer solutions. The different solutions exhibit only one non-Newtonian property, in the sense that other non-Newtonian effects can be neglected. The viscosity of solutions of stiff polymers has a strong shear rate dependence.

Entrance Flows of Non-Newtonian Fluids

Transactions of the Society of Rheology, 1973
The creeping flow of a Powell-Eyring fluid through a sudden tubular contraction is considered, and finite difference solutions of the vorticity transport and stream function equations are obtained for a range of contraction ratios, fluid properties, and apparent shear rates.

Non-Newtonian Fluids

1997
Abstract A new branch of fluid mechanics,Rheology, has rapidly been developed. It deals with non-Newtonian fluids which behave anomalously in comparison with Newtonian fluids. The anomaly is the variation in viscosity with the applied stress while the viscosity is constant for all Newtonian fluids.
