Non-Newtonian Fluids

2010
A fluid can be defined as a material that deforms continually under the application of an external force. In other words, a fluid can flow and has no rigid three-dimensional structure. An ideal fluid may be defined as one in which there is no friction.

Simple Non-Newtonian Fluid Flows

1980
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on simple non-Newtonian fluid flows. Water and air, the most important fluids for life, are Newtonian fluids. However, there are many fluid materials of importance in nature and technology that are non-Newtonian fluids. Certain aspects of the flow behavior of such non-Newtonian fluids are markedly different from

Magnetoplastic effect in non-Newtonian fluids.

AIAA Journal, 1966
For thin shells, y can be approximated by unity, and Eq. (2a) adopts the identity of Eq. (1). Figure 1 shows the shell response history computed from Eq. (2) for three different loading rates for the unstable mode (m = 1, n = 30, Ref. 1). Comparison of these curves shows that, with fixed shell geometry, material, and load magnitude, the higher rate ...

Stability of non-newtonian fluid flows

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2000
The stability of non-Newtonian fluid films moving on inclined planes is studied within the two-parameter Ostwald-de Waele model with account taken of the surface tension and van der Waals forces. The problem is solved analytically in the linear formulation, and the evolution of finite-amplitude perturbations is determined numerically.

An approach to non-newtonian fluid mechanics

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 1984
This paper, being an essay submitted in competition for the Adams Prize in December 1964, is mainly devoted to Professor Oldroyd's fundamental ideas developed in a series of papers published in 1950-58. Various problems connected with the formulation of rheologically invariant equations of state in a convected as well as in a fixed coordinate system ...
