An Adaptive Human Pilot Model With Reaction Time Delay for Enhanced Adaptive Control in Piloted Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This work introduces an adaptive human pilot model that captures pilot time‐delay effects in adaptive control systems. The model enables the prediction of pilot–controller interactions, facilitating safer integration and improved design of adaptive controllers for piloted applications.

The Majorana neutrino mass matrix indicated by the current data

open access: yes, 2015
The Majorana neutrino mass matrix combines information from the neutrino masses and the leptonic mixing in the flavor basis. Its invariance under some transformation matrices indicates the existence of certain residual symmetry.

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

scillation criteria for first-order nonlinear neutral delay differential equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2005
Oscillation criteria are obtained for all solutions of first-order nonlinear neutral delay differential equations. Our results extend and improve some results well known in the literature. Some examples are considered to illustrate our main results.

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Manufacturing Continuous Fiber‐Reinforced Printing Filaments: Development of a Post‐Consolidation Unit

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel, temperature‐controlled post‐consolidation unit is developed to test its potential to improve the melt impregnation process used to manufacture continuous fiber‐reinforced filaments for additive manufacturing of high‐performance thermoplastics.

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

Oscillation for equations with positive and negative coefficients and with distributed delay I: General results

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2003
We study a scalar delay differential equation with a bounded distributed delay, $$ dot{x}(t)+ int_{h(t)}^t x(s),d_s R(t,s) - int_{g(t)}^t x(s),d_s T(t,s)=0, $$ where $R(t,s)$, $T(t,s)$ are nonnegative nondecreasing in $s$ for any $t$, $$ R(t,h(t))=T(t,g ...

Recent results of the OPERA experiment

open access: yes, 2014
The OPERA experiment aims at the direct confirmation of the leading oscillation mechanism in the atmospheric sector looking for the appearance of $\nu_{\tau}$ in an almost pure $\nu_{\mu}$ beam (the CERN CNGS beam).
