Estimation of Distribution Overlap of Urn Models [PDF]
A classical problem in statistics is estimating the expected coverage of a sample, which has had applications in gene expression, microbial ecology, optimization, and even numismatics.

Posterior contraction rates for support boundary recovery [PDF]
Given a sample of a Poisson point process with intensity $\lambda_f(x,y) = n \mathbf{1}(f(x) \leq y),$ we study recovery of the boundary function $f$ from a nonparametric Bayes perspective.

Functional Calibration under Non-Probability Survey Sampling
Non-probability sampling is prevailing in survey sampling, but ignoring its selection bias leads to erroneous inferences. We offer a unified nonparametric calibration method to estimate the sampling weights for a non-probability sample by calibrating functions of auxiliary variables in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space.

Non-commutative probability and non-commutative processes
A probability space is a pair ($\mathcal{A},\phi $) where $\mathcal{A}$ is an algebra and $\phi $ a state on the algebra. In classical probability $\mathcal{A}$ is the algebra of linear combinations of indicator functions on the sample space and in ...

External validity & non-probability sampling
Sir, Apropos of the article on determinants of Indian physicians satisfaction and dissatisfaction from their job published recently1, the authors deserve credit for their efforts. As the title and the conclusions suggest, the aim was to study the job satisfaction and dissatisfaction levels among Indian physicians and compare it with levels across ...

Interplay between pairing and exchange in small metallic dots
We study the effects of the mesoscopic fluctuations on the competition between exchange and pairing interactions in ultrasmall metallic dots when the mean level spacing is comparable or larger than the BCS pairing energy.

Does student proactivity guarantee positive academic results? [PDF]
This paper analyzes the impact of students’ proactivity on academic performance based on a sample from students enrolled in an introductory course of Political Economy at the University of Seville (Spain) in three consecutive courses (2014–2015, 2015 ...

On the phase transition of the 3D random field Ising model [PDF]
We present numerical simulations of the random field Ising model in three dimensions at zero temperature. The critical exponents are found to agree with previous results.

We investigate, by numerical simulation, the path probability of non dissipative mechanical systems undergoing stochastic motion. The aim is to search for the relationship between this probability and the usual mechanical action.
