Path to sustainable energy consumption: The possibility of substituting renewable energy for non-renewable energy

Energy, 2021
Abstract Globally, energy consumption profile is largely dominated by fossil fuels with non-renewable energy sources accounting for as high as 84% of the total energy mix in 2019. Non-renewable energy resources emit high carbon and are subject to resource depletion which create concerns over environmental safety and resource sustainability.

Revisiting environmental Kuznets curve: an investigation of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption role

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2022
Empirical studies on the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis have not reached a consensus on their findings because different environmental indicators are used, among other reasons. So, this study proposes using a composite index encompassing all dimensions of environmental pollution, using the composite environmental quality index (CEQI ...

Investigating household sector’s non-renewables, biomass energy consumption and carbon emissions for Pakistan

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021
Concerns over the observed rising trend towards carbon emissions and the resulting adverse effects of climate change on human activities are the main challenges facing human beings. This study examines household sector's non-renewables and biomass energy consumption magnitude and how much carbon is emitted from non-renewable and biomass energy in ...

The relationship amongst energy consumption (renewable and non-renewable), and GDP in Algeria

Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2017
Abstract This study aims to explore economic growth-energy consumption nexus in Algeria between 1980 and 2012. With cointegration tests, we demonstrate the existence of long-run link between real gross domestic product, real capital and the two categories of energy consumption i.e renewable energy per capita and non-renewable energy. The long-run and

Forecasting the non-renewable energy consumption by an adjacent accumulation grey model

Journal of Cleaner Production, 2020
Abstract This paper proposes an adjacent accumulation discrete grey model to enhance the prediction accuracy of grey model and improve the utilization of new data. The stability of the proposed model is proved and the new model can obtain higher prediction accuracy through three cases.

A blend of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on economic growth of India: The role of disaggregate energy sources

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2023
India, with its rapidly growing economy, has an increasing demand for energy consumption. This study thus adds to the energy-economic growth literature by exploring the effect of renewable (hydro and nuclear) and non-renewable (coal and oil) energy consumption by different sources on the economic growth of India, spanning from 1985 to 2021.

Carbon dioxide abatement in Africa: The role of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption

Science of The Total Environment, 2019
The study explores the importance of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on CO2 abatement in Africa from 1990 to 2014 with available balanced panel data for selected 19 countries employing the Augmented Mean Group (AMG) estimation technique. The study adopts both first-and-second-generation unit root and cointegration tests.

An investigation of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption and economic growth nexus using industrial and residential energy consumption

Energy Economics, 2017
Abstract Our study shows that links between economic growth and energy consumption (both expressed in per capita terms) differed for renewables and non-renewables for income panels over the period 1971 to 2011. Renewables are mainly found to support the neutrality hypothesis.

Renewable and non-renewable energy consumption, economic growth and carbon emission in BRICS

International Journal of Energy Sector Management, 2020
Purpose The purpose of this study is to find the causal relationship among energy consumption (renewable energy and non-renewable energy), gross domestic product (GDP) growth and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa for the period of 1990-2017. Design/methodology/approach The study uses bootstrap Dumitrescu

The role of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption in CO2 emissions: a disaggregate analysis of Pakistan

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2018
The energy sector has become the largest contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Among these GHG emissions, most threatening is CO2 emission which comes from the consumption of fossil fuels. This empirical work analyzes the roles of renewable energy consumption and non-renewable energy consumption in CO2 emissions in Pakistan.
