Blur-generated non-separable space–time models

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Statistical Society Series B: Statistical Methodology, 2000
Summary Statistical space–time modelling has traditionally been concerned with separable covariance functions, meaning that the covariance function is a product of a purely temporal function and a purely spatial function. We draw attention to a physical dispersion model which could model phenomena such as the spread of an air pollutant ...

Feasibility and Safety of High‐Dose Proton Re‐Irradiation in Recurrent Pediatric Central Nervous System Tumors: A Single‐Institution Retrospective Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

Addendum: \'Etale d\'evissage, descent and pushouts of stacks

open access: yes, 2017
Using Nisnevich coverings and a Hilbert stack of stacky points, we prove \'etale d\'evissage results for non-representable \'etale and quasi-finite flat coverings.

Efficacy and Safety Analysis of Roxarestat in Regulating Renal Anemia in Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of roxarestat versus recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) in the management of renal anemia in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Methods This was a prospective, open‐label, randomized controlled trial.

On the packing dimension of box-like self-affine sets in the plane

open access: yes, 2011
We consider a class of planar self-affine sets which we call "box-like". A box-like self-affine set is the attractor of an iterated function system (IFS) of affine maps where the image of the unit square, [0,1]^2, under arbitrary compositions of the maps

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Effects of the Fluid Replacement Method During Online Hemodiafiltration on the Solute Removal Performance and Biocompatibility Using the Asymmetric Cellulose Triacetate Membrane

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Partially fundamentally reducible operators in Krein spaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A self-adjoint operator $A$ in a Krein space $\bigl({\mathcal K},[\,\cdot\,,\cdot\,]\bigr)$ is called partially fundamentally reducible if there exist a fundamental decomposition ${\mathcal K} = {\mathcal K}_+ [\dot{+}] {\mathcal K}_-$ (which does not ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Effros, Baire, Steinhaus and non-separability

open access: yesTopology and its Applications, 2015
We give a short proof of an improved version of the Effros Open Mapping Principle via a shift-compactness theorem (also with a short proof), involving `sequential analysis' rather than separability, deducing it from the Baire property in a general Baire-space setting (rather than under topological completeness).
