Research on the Influence of Hydrofoil Propulsive Parameters on Propulsion Efficiency

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Oscillating hydrofoils can be used to simplify the study of the swinging caudal fin propulsive mode of fish, where the motion parameters have a direct impact on the hydrodynamic performance and propulsive efficiency. In this study, numerical calculations

Motion processing deficits in migraine are related to contrast sensitivity

open access: yes, 2012
Background: There are conflicting reports concerning the ability of people with migraine to detect and discriminate visual motion. Previous studies used different displays and none adequately assessed other parameters that could affect performance, such ...

Enhanced Power Extraction via Hybrid Pitching Motion in an Oscillating Wing Energy Harvester with Leading Flap

open access: yesEnergies
This study applied a hybrid pitching motion for an oscillating wing with a leading flap aimed at enhancing energy extraction efficiency. In the first half of the cycle, the hybrid pitching motion begins with a non-sinusoidal pitching motion for 0.0 ≤ t/T

An Improved Rectifier Circuit for Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting from Human Motion

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Harvesting energy from human motion for powering small scale electronic devices is attracting research interest in recent years. A piezoelectric device (PD) is capable of harvesting energy from mechanical motions, in the form of alternating current (AC ...

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Historical Foundation and Practical Guideline for Ferroelectric Switching Kinetic Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The P and U pulses in the conventional PUND measurements are not identical because of the interplay between switching current and the measurement circuit components. This circuit effect can lead to a shift in polarization transients and misinterpreted physics in the switching kinetics.

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.

Development of a Three‐Axis Planar Hall Magnetoresistance Sensor Using a Superparamagnetic Nanoparticle‐Based Flux Guide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A printed superparamagnetic nanoparticle‐based flux guide enables the realization of a hysteresis‐free three‐axis magnetic sensor. This innovative architecture efficiently redirects out‐of‐plane fields to planar sensing elements, facilitating simultaneous vector detection without complex reset protocols.

Sinusoidal motion of small particles through a Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer microchannel filled with non-Newtonian fluid under electro-osmotic forces

open access: yesJournal of Taibah University for Science, 2021
This article deals with the electro-osmotic flow of non-Newtonian fluid in the presence of small particles moving in the sinusoidal form in a Darcy-Brinkman-Forchheimer medium.

On the Numerical Modeling of Friction Hysteresis of Conformal Rough Contacts

open access: yesLubricants, 2023
In this work, a numerical model simulating friction hysteresis for lubricated rough and textured surfaces in contact is presented. Friction hysteresis occurs in sliding contacts that are subjected to a non-constant (e.g., sinusoidal) motion. It refers to
