Scattering by Particles of Non-Spherical Shape

1980
The scattering of particles deviating more or less from spherical shape is discussed based on microwave scattering measurements. To point out the differences between spheres and extremely irregular particles, fluffy structures will be of primary interest in this paper.

A model for investigating the behaviour of non-spherical particles at interfaces

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2011
This paper introduces a simple method for modelling non-spherical particles with a fixed contact angle at an interface whilst also providing a method to fix the particles orientation. It is shown how a wide variety of particle shapes (spherical, ellipsoidal, disc) can be created from a simple initial geometry containing only six vertices.

Fabrication and Characterization of Non-spherical Polymeric Particles

Journal of Pharmaceutical Innovation, 2020
The particle shape is a key factor influencing drug loading, drug release, cellular interaction, cell uptake, and in vivo distribution of micro- and nanoparticles. The purpose of the study was to develop a preliminary proof of concept about the fabrication of non-spherical particles from spherical nanoparticles by simple film stretching method.

Impact of dust particle non‐sphericity on climate simulations

Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, 2012
AbstractAlthough mineral aerosol (dust) particles are irregular in shape, they are treated as homogeneous spheres in climate model radiative transfer calculations. Here, we test the effect of dust particle non‐sphericity in the ECHAM5.5‐HAM2 global aerosol–climate model.

The effect of particle shape on the spouting properties of non-spherical particles

Powder Technology, 1991
The spouting properties of thirteen types of particles (twelve being agricultural seeds) were measured in a 150-mm diameter cylindrical column with a 60° conical base. The particles, with sphericities varying from 0.39 to 1 (one being 0.39, others being in the range of 0.66-1.0), were investigated to determine the effect of shape factor on the minimum ...

Light Scattering by Non-Spherical Particles

2016

A composite particle model for non-spherical particles in DEM simulations

Granular Matter, 2015
This paper presents a composite particle model with sphere clumps for modelling non-spherical particles in discrete element method (DEM) simulations. The formulation of the sphere clumps uses random selections of particle radii and positions, thus it can theoretically simulate all possible non-spherical particles encountered in engineering projects. Voronoi analysis of the packings of non-spherical particles

Chemical Engineering Science, 2016
Abstract We present a structural analysis of the packings of identical non-spherical particles based on Voronoi cells. The packings are generated by discrete element method (DEM) simulations. The particles include axisymmetric ellipsoidal particles from oblates to prolates and cylindrical particles from disks to rods.

On definition of the parameteres of non-spherical particles

1996
Publisher Summary Analysis of form of nonspherical particles is of interest for different fields of science and engineering. This chapter considers possible modification of the television method allowing one to increase informativity of measurements at simultaneous simplification of realization of counting volume limitation. In the registration plane,
