A composite particle model for non-spherical particles in DEM simulations

Granular Matter, 2015
This paper presents a composite particle model with sphere clumps for modelling non-spherical particles in discrete element method (DEM) simulations. The formulation of the sphere clumps uses random selections of particle radii and positions, thus it can theoretically simulate all possible non-spherical particles encountered in engineering projects. Voronoi analysis of the packings of non-spherical particles

Chemical Engineering Science, 2016
Abstract We present a structural analysis of the packings of identical non-spherical particles based on Voronoi cells. The packings are generated by discrete element method (DEM) simulations. The particles include axisymmetric ellipsoidal particles from oblates to prolates and cylindrical particles from disks to rods.

On definition of the parameteres of non-spherical particles

1996
Publisher Summary Analysis of form of nonspherical particles is of interest for different fields of science and engineering. This chapter considers possible modification of the television method allowing one to increase informativity of measurements at simultaneous simplification of realization of counting volume limitation. In the registration plane,

Dynamics of non-spherical particles in turbulence [PDF]

open access: possible, 2019
Recent experimental and numerical investigations have enabled researchers to study directly the 3D time dependent motion of spherical and quasi-spherical particles in quiescent and turbulent flows. At the same time, fibre-like particles have been also extensively investigated during the last decades due to the high relevance of these geometries in the ...

Rotational cooling of non-spherical particles

Exploring the classical to quantum transition at ever-increasing mass scales is the key goal in modern physics. With precise control over the translational and rotational degrees of levitated nanoparticles in ultra-high vacuum, these particles are promising candidates for probing quantum mechanical behavior.
