Impact of Heated Versus Unheated Cooking Oil on Postprandial Vascular Function and Metabolism

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The impact of repeated heating of seed‐based culinary oils on cardiometabolic health has not been well established. Heating oils to high temperatures (> 150°C) causes lipid peroxidation, thus generating potentially harmful compounds that may impair vascular function. This randomized, single‐blind, crossover study investigated the acute effects

Optical mapping reveals a higher level of large‐scale structural variants in a family with paternally transmitted myotonic dystrophy and independent Parkinson's disease

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, EarlyView.
Abstract Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a clinically challenging multisystem neuromuscular hereditary disorder, with generational increase in severity and earlier age at onset. It is caused by an unstable cytosine‐thymine‐guanine repeat expansion at the DMPK locus, accompanied by associated genetic and epigenetic modifications.

SAFE: a Mix‐and‐Read Assay for miRNA Detection in Extracellular Vesicles From Unprocessed Plasma Toward Clinical Disease Diagnosis

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
SAFE (Sonication‐Assisted liposome Fusion with EVs) is a rapid, mix‐and‐read assay that directly detects extracellular vesicle–encapsulated miRNAs from unprocessed plasma. By delivering molecular beacons into EVs via sonication‐driven liposome fusion, the method enables intravesicular hybridization with minimal background, providing quantitative ...

Elevated Troponins and Diagnosis of Non-ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction in the Emergency Department

open access: yesCureus
Background In the emergency department (ED), the diagnosis of non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is primarily based on the presence or absence of elevated cardiac troponin levels, ECG changes, and clinical presentation. However, limited data exist regarding the incidence, clinical characteristics, and predictive value of different cardiac ...

Cardiac troponin I but not cardiac troponin T adheres to polysulfone dialyser membranes in an in vitro haemodialysis model: explanation for lower serum cTnI concentrations following dialysis.

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: Elevated serum cardiac troponin T (cTnT) and I (cTnI) can occur in patients with chronic kidney disease. Differences in cTn concentrations between cTnT and cTnI have been reported but the mechanism of such discrepancy has not been ...

Peri‐operative management of diabetes mellitus: a multidisciplinary consensus statement from the Association of Anaesthetists and the Joint British Diabetes Societies for Inpatient Care group

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Surgery in patients with diabetes mellitus is associated with increased morbidity and mortality compared with those who do not have diabetes mellitus. This is likely multifactorial and could be attributed to organisational issues; dysglycaemia; hospital‐acquired diabetic ketoacidosis; errors with insulin prescribing and ...
